TV ratings: Olympics fall significantly Thursday as games start winding down

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012NBC's coverage of the Olympics hit its lowest mark of the 2012 Summer Games Thursday night. The Peacock still dominated the night as viewers watched Usain Bolt win his second straight 200-meter gold medal. The lower ratings for the games allowed a couple other shows to get back to their normal levels. CBS' "Big Brother" and ABC's "Rookie Blue" climbed back to their non-Olympic levels. (Pending updates, anyway: Some local markets carried NFL preseason games.)NBC drew 22.4 million viewers and a 13.4 rating/22 share in households in primetime, its smallest audience for this Olympics by several million viewers. CBS (5.8 million, 3.8/6) came in second, beating out ABC (5.1 million, 3.0/5). FOX finished fourth with 2.7 million viewers and a 1.7/3. The CW (774,000, 0.5/1) trailed.NBC also took a hit in the adults 18-49 demographic, although its 6.8 rating was still more than the other four networks combined. 'Raising Hope' Finale: Custody Battle For Hope

After the jaw-dropping surprise reveal that Lucy wasn't dead after all on last week's penultimate episode of " Raising Hope " (Tue., 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox), she took Jimmy and his whole family to court this week in hopes of regaining custody of Hope. And her lawyer had a trick up her sleeve as well. The Chances thought their odds pretty good considering Lucy was a serial killer convicted and sentenced to death. But after her execution was botched, Lucy's record was wiped clean to avoid any embarrassment by the state, and so her serial killer past was inadmissible. Her lawyer brought in virtually every guest star the show has ever had in a very "Seinfeld"-ian stream of memories, ultimately leading to Jimmy losing custody. But fate intervened just as Jimmy was ready to leave the country to stay with his daughter. After finding out he loved Sabrina, Lucy decided to kill her and chased her down the street with a knife, where she promptly got hit by a bus. That truly brings a whole new meaning to the old cliche of a sitcom solving the biggest problems in 22 minutes. "Raising Hope" has been renewed and will return in Fall 2012 on Fox. 'Raising Hope' Season 2 finale: Let us never speak of this again

"Raising Hope" has built up enough goodwill over its two seasons that the occasional misstep can be forgiven. Like the one the show took with its two-part season finale, which concluded Tuesday (April 17).On one hand, you can respect the show going back to its early episodes and reminding us that the adorable Hope is the product of Jimmy's spectacularly unlucky one-night stand with a serial killer girl with a troubled past. And it's not hard to see references to "Seinfeld" and "The Simpsons," two of the greatest comedies of the past quarter-century, in the episode. But the references are to two of those shows' more reviled episodes: the "Seinfeld" series finale, with its parade of past guest stars testifying against the principal characters, and "The Principal and the Pauper," which introduced the people of Springfield to one Armin Tamzarian. The fact that the two-parter was pretty self-conscious about the mechanics of television didn't help. The... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/raising-hope-season-2-finale-let-us-never-speak-of-this-again.html

'Raising Hope': Nancy Grace Presides Over A Shocking Twist

While most shows save their big shocking moments for their season finales, " Raising Hope " (Tue., 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox) dropped a bombshell on their viewers in the penultimate episode. And they did so by creating a show within the show Nancy Grace hosts "Inside Probe," taking a look into the serial killer Lucy Carlisle AKA Hope's mom. Through several hilarious interviews and on-the-scene interviews, the full story is revealed, but Grace saves one nugget for the closing credits. Lucy wasn't executed after all. Hope's mother is alive, which throws absolutely everything in the show up in the air. You bet it's to be continued in next week's season finale. TV Line talked with Marth Plimpton who said she enjoyed Grace's walk through their world, interacting with the wacky denizens of their town. She also promised even more familiar faces from the season will be back for the finale, "which is really cool." The good news for fans is that "Raising Hope" has already been renewed for a third season, so no matter how this situation plays out next week, there's a whole new year to see if and how Lucy messes up the strange dynamic that's settled into the family these past two years since Hope was born. Check out the season finale of "Raising Hope," next Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox. 'Glee,' 'New Girl,' 'Raising Hope' renewed by FOX

In what seems like a no-brainer move, FOX has renewed "Glee," "New Girl" and "Raising Hope" for the 2012-2013 season. Well, the "Raising Hope" decision was a little less obvious but great news nonetheless for the network's Tuesday night comedy lineup. While there has been very public speculation about "Glee" Season 4 and what it will look like -- who will be back? How will they incorporate the graduating seniors? -- there was never a doubt that it would return. Now the news is official."New Girl," the breakout comedy hit of the season, will come back for Season 2, while "Raising Hope" earned a Season 3."Over the past season, 'New Girl' has become the hottest new appointment series for young adults; 'Raising Hope' has established itself as one of the smartest and most unique offbeat comedies on television; and 'Glee' has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon," says FOX's entertainment president Kevin Reilly... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/04/glee-new-girl-raising-hope-renewed-by-fox.html
