Rizzoli and Isles Author on Her Love of Genre Writing

Tess Gerritsen is the author of the Rizzoli & Isles books, and the second season of the television series based on her work begins tonight. Gerritsen, who practiced internal medicine as a physician for five years, now spends her time penning suspense novels that deal with medicine and forensic science. Gerritsen returned to her first love of writing while on maternity leave. She started with romance suspense novels, because she used to read romances during her medical residency. "I found that after a hard day working in life and death situations, that a romance novel was the perfect way to unwind," she said. Then Gerritsen got the idea for a book about the black market in organs and organ theft, and tried a medical thriller, "Harvest," which became a bestseller. "That was the first book that got me a really big audience, and I realized maybe I should be writing more thrillers. So, I’ve been doing it ever since." Gerritsen's latest book, "The Silent Girl," draws upon her own Asian-American heritage and brings Jane Rizzoli into Boston's Chinatown to work alongside Chinese-American Detective Johnny Tam. On the eve of the international book tour for "The Silent Girl," Gerritsen took a moment to sit down with Speakeasy. Angie Harmon Gives a Glimpse of 'Rizzoli and Isles' Season Two on 'The View' (VIDEO)

Angie Harmon's Boston Police detective Jane Rizzoli was the proverbial tough-as-nails cop on season one of 'Rizzoli and Isles.' But she doesn't start off season two that way, and as Harmon said Monday on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), her character will get a little softening this season, which premieres tonight at 10PM ET on TNT. A clip from the new season found Rizzoli sitting on a couch feeling anti-social, nursing an addiction to The Shopping Channel, and looking rather unlike a woman ready to go out and bust some perps. "The first season was all about Jane being sort of Boston P.D.'s own Rottweiler," said Harmon. "This season, season two, is all about, you know, she doesn't have all the answers, she is more vulnerable, there are cracks in the armor." //www.aoltv.com/2011/07/11/angie-harmon-rizzoli-and-isles-season-two-the-view-video/

So are ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ gay or what?

I’ll be honest – I’d been faintly interested in watching "Rizzoli & Isles," but I wasn’t completely sold on adding yet another police procedural to my DVR, even one led by two strong actresses (Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander). Apparently, I was one of the few who hesitated. The show (which kicks off its second season July 11) averaged 8.7 million viewers throughout its first season, a number that many a big four network would covet this time of year (for example, ABC's "The Bachelorette" has been averaging just over 8.2 million). But ultimately, that wasn’t what inspired me to finally sit down and watch. "Rizzoli & Isles" has become the focus of one of those "are they or aren’t they" debates. Are they or aren't they gay, that is. The blogosphere (especially the lesbian blogosphere) and the mainstream media have buzzed about it, created a drinking game about it and mostly concluded that, despite the protestations of the show’s creator, Harmon’s Rizzoli and Alexander’s Isles were, well, you know.   Read More... //www.hitfix.com/blogs/starr-raving/posts/quick-look-so-are-rizzoli-isles-gay-or-what
