Review of Rush Hour

60 minutes

"Rush Hour," a reimagining of the hit feature film franchise, is a buddy-cop drama about a maverick LAPD detective and a by-the-book detective from Hong Kong who knock heads when they are forced to partner together.

[Based on the pilot] I have been a long time fan of Jackie Chan's and Chris Tucker's Rush Hour movies, which are absolutely fantastic (not works of art but funny and great dynamics) so it's safe to say I was a bit skeptical they could recreate the same chemistry. I think they almost succeeded. Carter is still fantastic and Lee has the same style. But even if the new Carter lives up to Chris Tucker's performance, the new Lee still has a bit to work for it. Sure the fight scenes are still good... but not Jackie Chan good. I'll keep an eye on it though.

Well if you're a long time fan of the Rush Hours films you should know that it starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, not Chris Rock. Contrary to your opinion and yes I know we all have different opinions. The guy playing Jackie Chan's character John Foo is not even close to being Jackie Chan, not to mention that he doesn't even look Chinese probably because he is part Irish. His moves are no where crisp nor is he as humorous as Chan was. Carter's character played by Justin Hires is also a disappointment. Nowhere near as funny as Tucker. All in all I think maybe Hollywood will fail in it's attempt of making this TV series a hit.

It slipped my mind as it was late when I wrote it and been a long while since I last saw the movies, didn't think to check. Thank you for the correction though.

The new Carter however is ok with me. He's got the same charm as Tucker, but a bit calmer, which personally I like and works better for a TV series.

Like I said after watching the first episode. This series was doomed.
