The Road Jeremy Allen White Took to Get to “Shameless”

You could argue that Jeremy Allen White’s greatest role in his career thus far is Lip in Shameless, but to be honest he’s had a career leading up to this point that a lot of people don’t know about. His role in the Gallagher clan is one that’s shifted throughout the seasons from being the con man to the upstanding adult to the guy that doesn’t know which way to turn because life is simply coming at him too fast to see what’s happening. Lip isn’t exactly innocent but he’s definitely the guy that finally has tried to do the right thing at least for some of his life. The way he started out versus the way he ended up as of now is a long and confusing journey but Lip has definitely not had a good time of it for much of the trip. That’s kind of what happens though when you’re expected to shoulder the kind of burden he has with his siblings and his father Frank, as well as his sister Fiona, who seems to have had her own breakdowns throughout the season and has needed Lip to help get her over the hump. Weekend Binge Guide: April 2018

Have the weekend free? Going out is overrated! Binge-watch one of these shows instead:   If you want to laugh:   Shameless See all reviews for Shameless It only takes one episode to get hooked on Shameless . A bold claim, I know, but give it a shot - it’s like a trainwreck that you can’t look away from, but is also instantly charming. The cast is excellent, led brilliantly by William H. Macy as Frank, the absent, alcoholic father and Emmy Rossum as Fiona, his eldest daughter who is stuck raising her five younger siblings. The lengths the Gallagher family will go to survive in the South Side of Chicago are absurd and well, shameless. Expect lying, thieving, scheming, and more than one fist fight. The first seven seasons are available on Netflix.   If you want to scream:   The OA See all reviews for The OA If your worst fear is being kidnapped and held in an underground lab, maybe skip this one. Otherwise feel free to devour the surreal world Brit Marling has created. True to her previous works (Another Earth and Sound of My Voice are my personal favs) the atmosphere is eerie, other-worldly, and visually stunning. Marling stars as Prairie, a young blind violinist who reappears seven years after she went missing with her sight restored and a strange story to tell. As her tale unfolds, the lines between life and death are blurred, and you’ll find yourself questioning what is fact and what is fiction - or if that even matters. Season 1 is available on Netflix.   If you want to cry:   The Fosters See all reviews for The Fosters I’m a sucker for family dramas, but The Fosters is unique in that it doesn’t shy away from controversial topics - it showcases them. The show follows a lesbian couple and their five kids - one biological, two adopted, and two fostered - as they navigate issues ranging from puberty and dating to marital issues and losing a parent, transgender and immigrant rights to gun control and the state of the foster care system. This show has something for everyone, but at its core it is about family values and creating a home that is a safe-haven in a turbulent world. Seasons 1-5a are available on Netflix.   If you want to think:   Dear White People See all reviews for Dear White People Based on the movie of the same name, Dear White People takes a deeper dive into the stories of its cast - a group of students of color who attend a largely white liberal arts college. A blackface frat party sets the wheels in motion for social unrest, urging the students make their voices heard on campus while simultaneously attempting to balance school, love, and family. The writing is smart, witty, and extremely relevant to current events, and the performances are strong - each new story brings a different perspective to the same events. Season 1 is available on Netflix.   div.post p { text-align: justify; }
