Sam and Dean look into monster families that are running Chicago's underbelly, including a clan of shape-shifters and a group of werewolves. Meanwhile, they meet someone who holds a personal grudge against the creatures.

Sheriff Mills calls Sam and Dean after a run-in with a vampire.

Metatron tries to get Castiel to join forces with him. Meanwhile, Sam and Dean capture Gadreel.

While Dean deals with the after effects of the Mark of Cain, Sam learns of a case in which straight-laced people turn into violent killers.

Crowley promises to find the first blade, but ends up falling off the wagon and asks Sam and Dean for help; Abaddon learns that the brothers are looking for the blade.

The last photograph of a dead teenager reveals a ghostly figure in the background; the brothers learn that famous supernaturalists are also investigating the teen's death.

Sam and Dean are shocked to discover that the Men of Letters' bunker is haunted. Their investigation leads them to a storage facility where the demons are keeping a prize possession. Meanwhile, Castiel is captured by Bartholomew.

Dean and Sam go under cover at a fancy day spa to investigate recent murders that left the victims hundreds of pounds lighter after their death.

Sam and Dean visit Garth in the hospital and demand to know where he has been. Garth runs away and the guys investigate why he fled and are stunned by what they uncover.

Crowley needs Dean's help finding the only blade that can take down Abbadon; Castiel notices some grace left inside Sam.

Dean seeks revenge on the angel that killed Kevin; Castiel has a plan to get Sam to expel Gadreel by separating his brain from the angel's.

An angel war begins and a massive amount of angels are slaughtered. Sam and Dean investigate and run into Castiel who is soon captured and tortured. Meanwhile, Dean questions Ezekiel's demands and wonders if it is time to tell Sam the truth.

Sheriff Mills asks Dean and Sam for help investigating several murders in her town; when it is discovered that four victims belonged to a chastity group, Dean goes undercover.

Dean helps an old friend with a ghost problem at a home for delinquent boys. Dean was sent there years before for stealing food. When Sam learns about Dean's past he is stunned and asks for more information, which Dean is reluctant to give.

Castiel calls Dean when he reads about a disappearance in the area; Dean tries to keep Sam distracted by asking him and Kevin to decipher the tablet with Crowley.

Sam and Dean look up a spell to try to communicate with a dog when their only witness to two bizarre murders is a German Sheppard.

Sam and Dean meet Dorothy from Oz and the wicked witch when they locate an ancient computer in the Men of Letters house that dislodges a hidden hex bag that in turn unleashes a magical green-webbed wall. Dorothy became trapped in the web years ago to stop the witch from finding the key that would open the gate that connected their world to Oz.

A group of angels hunts Castiel. Dean and Sam race to find their friend before the angels do. Homeless, Castiel tries to make his way through the city and comes across some unexpected surprises.

Sam's "better" meaning he's healing with the help of Ezekiel...unbeknownst to him, of course. But there's no time to rest as he, Dean and Kevin deal with a captured Crowley. Plus, Abaddon's back and as badass as ever. Do Sam and Dean have what it takes to walk away from a confrontation with this wannabe ruler of hell?

The long (long) summer hellatus is finally over. Supernatural is back on our small screens on a new night. Or should I say old night. Yes, in season one (2005) this show started out on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. after Gilmore Girls on the WB. Fast forward to 2013 and the show is possessing (pun intended) this same time slot. But this time around, it follows The Originals.
