TJ Hooker was on ABC seasons 1-4 in a traditional 60 minute format. It was cancelled and picked up by CBS for season 5 in a 90 minute format as part of the CBS "Crime Time After Prime-Time" showcase. Most of the syndication episodes are cut to the 60 minute format, once a blue moon you can find a TJ Hooker marathon and someone willing to show the full 90 minute versions.

The series focus is on William Shatner's character. The series initially set out to give a more "hands on", procedure-based view of police work than some of the more stylized cop shows. Hooker was a plainclothes LCPD Detective Sergeant whose partner was killed in the line of duty one night while he and Hooker were on patrol. An angry Hooker is motivated to rid the streets of criminals like those who murdered his partner, and he gives up his detective position to return to duty as a uniformed beat cop.

If you're not a William Shatner fan... what's wrong with you!?! Just watch one of the best Twilight Zone's shows, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. The episode is considered one of the most popular of the series and parts of the plot have been repeated and parodied several times in popular culture, including television shows, films, radio and music. Shatner is a national treasure.
