The Good Place Reviews & Ratings

Thursdays, 8:30 PM ET on NBC

30 minutes

In Michael Schur's new comedy series, Kristen Bell plays Eleanor, a woman from New Jersey who comes to realize that she hasn't been a very good person. She decides to turn over a new leaf by learning what it actually means to be "good" or "bad," and then trying to make up for her past behavior. Ted Danson plays Michael, who, through an unlikely set of circumstances, comes to be Eleanor's guide through her self-designed self-improvement course.

The Good Place is a whimsical, off beat, light-hearted comedy. Kristen Bell and Ted Danson are wonderful in this delightfully quirky show.

Kristen Bell is the perfect actress to play the likably "bad" girl in "The Good Place." As Eleanor, a recent, mistaken arrival who's trying to change her selfish ways, Bell must swing from aggressively terrible (especially in the flashbacks) to earnestly aspirational. It's a winning show with a strong premise that gets better as it goes.

After Veronica Mars, i'll give anything with Kristen Bell a chance. This is a quirky upbeat "cat in the hen house" look at morality. Ted Danson plays a great "overseer" of a non-denomination Heaven equivalent. The secondary characters need some more added depth, but a good pilot and second episode will keep me coming back to see what happens next.

NBC comedies have always had a special place in my heart, and while 'The Good Place' may not yet be to the pedigree of 'Community' or 'Parks and Recreation', the first season is a very solid, funny and entertaining foundation on which to build.

I will give anything with Kristen Bell a chance after her Veronica Mars portrayal. This show is interesting. I don't know if you could be invested enough to show up every week but its a great binge watch. It's kooky and different. Its not dead like me but its fun. At episode 9 i wonder how long it can Jenga because really there is only 1 single issue to solve and so it will become about having to drag that out and its relation to other issues. with it still being the core problem.

Kristen Bell plays a shallow and unlikable character who dies and goes to the Good Place, where she must redeem herself, or else. The whole look and feel reminds me very much of Pushing Daisies - the saturated colours, the segues into absurdity, even the life-after-death motifs. And that's not a bad thing. Ted Danson gets to put aside some of the gravitas that he had to bring to CSI, and return to his successful comedic abilities a la Cheers.

This show speaks to me homie!!
Its like it takes all the bits of cynicism there is about people, places, things, ideas etc then packages into a delightful, whimsical, mystical and funny 20 odd minutes show.

This was much better than I expected. The BF even liked it, and that says something.

Although Kristen Bell, Ted Danson and the rest of the cast are fine actors and doing the best they can with the material, the show is too cutesy for its own good, and relies heavily on the charm of its main actors. The quirkiness gets old very fast, and I can't see how the storyline can develop beyond the mistaken identity/residents need to find a purpose plot. I watched 3 episodes, and already quite bored with it.

Kristen Bell is great in comedic roles and this definitely seems like a keeper. I enjoyed the pilot, and if you are on the fence after watching it you should stick around for the last two minutes of episode three before you decide to dump the show because it seems there's going to be a great continuing plot in the season that adds some mystery to this comedy.
