The Man in the High Castle Reviews & Ratings

Fridays, 3:00 AM ET on Amazon

60 minutes

A glimpse into an alternate history of North America: what life after WWII may have been like if the Nazis had won the war. The Man in the High Castle explores daily life in 1962, fourteen years after the end of a longer Second World War (1939–1948 in this history). The victorious Axis Powers - Imperial Japan, Fascist Italy, and Nazi Germany - are conducting intrigues against each other in North America, specifically in the former U.S., which surrendered to them once they had conquered Eurasia and destroyed the populaces of Africa.

A delicious blend of the suspense and historical elements of “The Americans” and the mystery and dreariness of “The Leftovers.” I so hope this is picked up by Amazon. If you enjoy it as much as I did, take the survey and let Amazon know! This show has to make it on the air.

"The Man in the High Castle" is good enough to make me want to read the book. It is atmospheric, capturing a nightmarish version of America. (I believe we could STILL end up somewhere like this if we don't watch out, which makes this one of the scariest things I've seen on TV in a long time.)
The acting is very good, Rufus Sewell as the evil Obergruppenführer is fantastic.

Outstanding, astonishing, no spoilers * the final scene of the final episode will leave you breathless and wanting to KNOW - what just happened??? I cannot wait for season 2!!!!

No spoilers there, don't worry, I'd never do that, I just cannot recommend this series highly enough, it's exceptional. The acting is so good that there are characters you will love and ones you will hate and then suddenly you empathise with them, slightly...

Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

From the opening credits to the last detail, this is an amazing series! An eerie what-if spin on world history and yet not what you'd expect when you read the summary. The story is excellent and unique, the cast is absolutely brilliant, the director a genius, the costumes, the feel of the era and the fact that the "events" take place in the 60s makes it even more appealing to me. Riddley Scotts' hand surely had something to do (he is a producer) with this superb result! I can't recommend this show high enough!

The man in the high castle is a sophisticated alternative history thriller which is loosely based on Philip K. Dick's novel of the same name, it takes a look at what the world might have been like had the outcome of World War 2 turned out differently. If you don’t know who Philip K. Dick is, think of many of the more intelligent science fiction movies you’ve seen since 1982. Yes, “Bladerunner” was loosely based on a Philip K. Dick story. 15 movie and TV adaptations have been made from his books. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_adaptations_of_works_by_Philip_K._Dick
The man in the high castle is a complex dark series, and not for people who don’t have at least an intermediate understanding of 20th century history. The acting and the production design was excellent. The screenplay was updated a bit from the PK Dick story, but I think it’s actually better than the book. Some viewers might find the atmosphere of this series a bit dark, I did when I binge watched several episodes on one of my days off. Suspending ones disbelief into a show set in a United States which is occupied by goose stepping Nazi’s and the Imperial Japanese Empire can get a little heavy after 10 episodes. But, it’s nothing against the show, it’s doing its job making us realize that for all the ugliness in the world even in the horrible premise of the series, kindness and love can endure. I paced my viewing of “The man in the high castle” and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have not read the book but this is one show that has been shot beautifully, and also from the pilot to the season finally manages to keep the viewer intrigued. it is a story of what could have been and that is something that takes a life of its own, and is definitely visible throughout the show. there is good character development and, after Mad Men i have to say that the 60s era is something that with the right props, that look can be achieved. The season finale is gripping, suspenseful and at the same time it is that end scene that got me, and i am so looking forward to season 2 and for those of you that havent watched it, what are you waiting for?

The acting is decent, the setting is strong, the writing is pretty garbage and is really bringing it down. For instance, the resistance is comically bad at everything they do. Storm troopers have better aim... Now onto what instigated this whole review, the start of episode 4. There will be slight spoilers from this point, but they are minor. After they knock the man out, the two protagonists leave him with his weapon only to run into the street of the town they had been residing in for close to a week now(I bring this up so you don't think they're in a new location or lost) and Juliana exclaims "where is the truck", guy says "I don't know". Mind you the truck is 10 or less feet behind them, RIGHT next to the building they just exited. They run into a building and the male protagonist says "shit I left my gun in the truck". For shame writers, for shame...

It had to change from what Phillip wrote. The novel is short and it would be hard to take a series out of it. I think its why the resistance is so impotent, Phil had all but decimated it by the start of the story. The man in the high castle is very detail oriented and that is where my love lies. I have chosen to forget the novel and concentrate on the story i am being told now. I think the creators made a good decision to show how easy it is to accept totalitarianism as a concept when it it is actively around. This is a very tight rope to walk especially once you've left the format. I wish the writers well, because the art staff and set detail are beyond phenomenal.

The Germans and the Japanese have won World War II and now control the world. This Period Drama is set in the United States in the early 60's. Some Americans don't want to live under "Nazi and Japanese" rule and decide to take their country, their lives, their freedom back. The show is filmed with a kind of dark atmosphere and has an original script. The underlying plot is cool but the straight forward storyline could have been much better. It's not a bad watch... but trust me theirs MUCH better drama's out there.

I watched the first two episodes of this and it was amazing, but then I decided I just need less Nazis in my life and dropped it. Sorry, Philip.
