Old Christine Won't Find New Life on ABC

Bad news for fans of CBS' cancelled sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine: Despite having expressed interest in the past in picking up the show, ABC has apparently declined to give the show a new lease on life. "It's just not going to happen at ABC," creator Kari Lizer tells TV Guide Magazine exclusively. "It looks like the end of Christine." But all hope isn't lost: Lizer says she'd like to reteam with Christine's Emmy-winning star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, on a new project: "How can I go back to casting after working with that girl?" Julia Louis-Dreyfus Laughs Off Walk of Fame Star Misspelling

Talk about a good sport. Julia Louis-Dreyfus laughed off her name being misspelled as "Luis" and written without a hyphen on her Hollywood Walk of Fame star, the Associated Press reports. "The misspelling was so perfectly apt, a great metaphor for show business," the Seinfeld and New Adventures of Old Christine star said following the ceremony on Tuesday. "Right when you think you've made it, you get knocked down." Those attending the ceremony included New Christine cast and crew members, as well as Seinfeld's Jason Alexander and co-creator Larry David. "I am prepared to give up my nights and weekends to guard this [star] with my life from the filth and pollutants to which it's prone," David joked. "Anyone who so much as sneezes near this area, while I'm on duty ... well, I'll say, 'God bless you,' but I won't be happy about it." Louis-Dreyfus is the first Seinfeld principal to get the Walk of Fame honor. A spokeswoman for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said it would install a new, correctly spelled star for the 49-year-old Emmy winner. Source Here

Tonight's TV Hot List: Wednesday, May 5, 2010

* The Middle (8:30/7:30c ABC) What the Hecks? It's like Mother's Day in reverse for Frankie when she spends the holiday doing even more than usual for Mike and the kids instead of the other way around. Then she escapes the Heck house for a few hours to take solace at her mom's place and dumps the same mess on her mother (Marsha Mason), expecting to be waited on hand and foot. Meanwhile, Sue feels guilty about stealing a motivational magnet from a store, even though the magnet itself is partly to blame. * American Idol (9/8c Fox) "Croon a tune" was the task last night when the final five reimagined the swingy standards of Frank Sinatra, an entertainment titan so iconic that he has no less than three nicknames - Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, and the Voice. Hot on the heels of those performances comes tonight's results show, in which one of our gifted singers - Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Casey James, Aaron Kelly or Michael Lynche - will be sent packing. Boosting the proceedings are performances by Harry Connick Jr. (last night's music mentor) and Lady Gaga, who delivers her song "Alejandro." * America's Next Top Model (8/7c The CW ) At the end of this episode the final four will be revealed. But to make it into that elite group, the five remaining models must impress their latest photographer - Tyra! They also meet New Zealand actress Sarah McLeod and visit one of the sets for The Lord of the Rings, which McLeod appeared in, where they pose for a quick five-frame photo shoot. * The New Adventures of Old Christine (8/7c CBS) Tim Meadows guest stars in an episode that's literally a scream. That's because New Christine (Emily Rutherfurd) goes into painful labor (Meadows is her ob-gyn). But Old Christine is screaming as well because she believes a prowler is on the loose in her neighborhood, and she convinces Matthew to stay over. * Criminal Minds (9/8c CBS) The NFL's Greg Jennings guest-stars and his character makes a sweep of sorts...a sweep of a crime scene as he plays an evidence technician who aids the team. The case involves a serial killer who commits suicide and leaves clues identifying a person he abducted - and who could still be alive. * Top Chef Masters (10/9c Bravo ) Bravo's palate-pleasing reality-meets-cooking series progresses to the next level - the champions round, featuring the advancing Top 8 culinary artisans. The heat is on when these chief chefs form teams for a blindfolded, cuisine-themed relay race. Later, in the elimination round, the cooks are tasked to cater a wedding in San Juan Capistrano, Cal. There likely won't be wedded bliss for the competitors since there's a big catch: They must cook out of mobile kitchens. * Live from Lincoln Center (9/8c PBS) Alan Alda hosts what's sure to be a delectable menu of classical delights at the Lincoln Center's Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, where the "power trio" of pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman serve the tantalizing main course: Mendelssohn's Piano Trios. Source Here

ABC Has Plans for 'Old Christine' ... Maybe 'Ghost Whisperer,' Too

For the past two years, ABC has expressed interest in picking up 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' if CBS decided to drop it. This year is no different. According to Deadline.com, if CBS cancels 'The New Adventures of Old Christine,' ABC will snap it up. The network even has a plan for where to program the Julia Louis Dreyfus sitcom. It'll be paired with Patricia Heaton's 'The Middle,' leading in to 'Modern Family' and 'Cougar Town.' That would make for a very solid night of comedy, likely Wednesday again, which is what worked so well this season for ABC -- with the exception of Kelsey Grammer's woeful 'Hank,' which was mercifully axed by ABC last November. 'Christine' and 'The Middle' would make a good pairing, although neither show has been a ratings juggernaut. However, ABC would benefit from swiping 'Christine' from CBS because the Tiffany network would have to find a replacement, and they would lose whatever loyal 'Christine' viewership has built up in four five seasons. There's also the possibility that ABC is putting it out there that it would want 'Christine' to force CBS into keeping the show. There's also been buzz that ABC might have its sights set on another CBS program: 'Ghost Whisperer.' The Jennifer Love Hewitt production is run by ABC Studios in a co-production with CBS Studios. Therefore, ABC has a vested interest in keeping 'GW' on the air. The decision could come down to how robust the CBS pilot season has been. With shows like 'Hawaii Five-O' and the spinoff from 'Criminal Minds' likely to be greenlighted, and CBS perhaps wanted a full season of 'Undercover Boss,' the network may be ready to drop 'Ghost Whisperer.'
