Ricky Gervais on The Office Finale: Major Shark Jumping!

TV Fanatic critic Dan Forcella isn't the only one who didn't love The Office season finale. Ricky Gervais, who was one of many big guest stars on the concluding episode, blogged yesterday that the installment focused far too much on cameos than on actual storyline development. Or humor. "If you're going to jump a shark, jump a big one," wrote the British comedian, adding: "I assume most people know I didn't do the U.S. remake for the art. I did my version for the art. That's why I stopped it after a few hours of telly." //www.tvfanatic.com/2011/05/ricky-gervais-on-the-office-finale-major-shark-jumping/

TV Ratings: 'American Idol' results and 'Bones' dip, 'Mentalist' finale up

Fast National ratings for Thursday, May 19, 2011The "American Idol" results show narrowed the pool from three to two, losing a fraction of last week's audience in the process, but still buoying FOX to win the night. "Bones" season finale was also down from last Thursday -- though it bested the 2010 finale with help from the different timeslot. In other finales, "The Office" regained some of its post-Carell audience loss with a one-hour episode that topped in adults 18-49, and the season finale of "The Mentalist" was up from last week's numbers.FOX led the night with 15.6 million viewers and a 9.1 rating/15 share in households, besting the improved CBS (12.5 million, 7.7/12), which came in second. ABC came in third with 7.5  million viewers and a 5.0/8, with NBC (4.7 million, 2.9/5) in fourth and The CW at the bottom with just 1.3 million viewers and a 0.8/1.The adults 18-49 demographic also belonged... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/tv-ratings-american-idol-results-and-bones-dip-mentalist-finale-up.html

'The Office': Who should be the new manager?

"The Office" ended its season Thursday night with a big question purposely unanswered: Who's going to be the new branch manager when the show picks up again in the fall? The show welcomed a long list of guest stars playing potential candidates for the job, ranging from Will Arnett to James Spader, and also had a couple current cast members interviewing for the position. We want to hear your opinions in the poll below, but first let's run down the candidates. For starters, we know that Ray Romano, Arnett and Warren Buffett won't be joining the show. Romano and Arnett are both committed to shows of their own ("Men of a Certain Age" and NBC's new "Up All Night"), and Buffett is A) not an actor and B) probably wouldn't want to take the pay cut. We can probably also rule out Jim Carrey (although we really liked the reveal that he was the guy who needed... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/05/the-office-who-should-be-the-new-manager.html

Paul Lieberstein of 'The Office' on Steve Carell's Exit & the Star-Studded Season Finale

On the seventh season finale of 'The Office' (Thurs., May 19, 9PM ET on NBC), it feels like everyone on the planet is coming to Dunder Mifflin Scranton to interview for Michael Scott's old job. Jim Carrey, Ray Romano, Warren Buffett, Ricky Gervais, Will Arnett, James Spader and Catherine Tate will all be appearing in the episode as possible replacements. But, as NBC Entertainment president Bob Greenblatt said during the network's upfront presentation, they won't reveal who the new boss is until next season. Still, with the departure of Steve Carell and the guessing game about who might be the new boss, it's been an interesting season for 'The Office,' one that's seen the writers meet the challenge some weeks and miss it others. Paul Liberstein, who's best known for playing hapless HR rep Toby, is also the showrunner of 'The Office.' He talked to AOL TV about the challenges of Season 7, Carell's farewell episode and where the show goes from here. //www.tvsquad.com/2011/05/18/paul-lieberstein-the-office-season-finale/

Is Mindy Kaling Done Writing For 'The Office'?

On Mindy Kaling's Twitter feed, the actress has been hinting that this is also her last season, even if it's jokingly in comparison to the much more ballyhooed departure of Steve Carell. The other day, I spoke to Paul Lieberstein, who most people know as hapless HR rep Toby on 'The Office,' but he is also an executive producer and the current showrunner on the series. During our interview, which mostly revolves around the season that will end with next week's star-studded season finale, I asked if Kaling, who not only plays Kelly Kapoor but also is one of the show's best writer/producers, is coming back next year. "She's coming back as an actress for sure," Lieberstein told me. When I pressed and asked if that means she won't be writing for the show anymore, he said, "It doesn't look that way, but I don't think that's been... we don't know yet." //www.tvsquad.com/2011/05/12/mindy-kaling-the-office/
