Playboy Club Producer: It’s Not Mad Men and It's Not So Racy

Comparisons between NBC's The Playboy Club , the new 1960s-set series that takes place at the first Playboy Club in Chicago, and Mad Men were perhaps inevitable, but the producers and cast of the period drama were on hand at the fall TV previews on Monday to downplay any similarities. "The comparison to Mad Men ends at the era," executive producer Ian Biederman said. "This is a much different show with a much different energy." Before the series has even premiered, the show has drawn attention for its name alone, causing the Parents Television Council to question whether a show based on one of the largest adult entertainment industries would be suitable on primetime television. At least one NBC affiliate, Salt Lake City's KSL, has opted to not carry the program, which will be shown in that market by KMYU, the local My Network TV affiliate. At the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Monday, the showrunners and stars of the series quite literally faced their critics. Addressing the affiliate issue, executive producer Chad Hodge says, "That is certainly their right to air or not air the show; we're just excited that another network in Salt Lake City has picked up the show."The theme of the day was whether or not the series, which is set in the 1960s at the Chicago Playboy Club, degrades or empowers women. The bunnies in the series certainly have their various secrets, and there are certainly "dirty dealings" happening at the club, though there's... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/08/the-playboy-club-can-women-be-empowered-while-wearing-bunny-costumes.html

Hugh Hefner Won't Be Narrating NBC's The Playboy Club

You won't be hearing much from Hugh Hefner on NBC's The Playboy Club this fall. Hefner narrates the new series' pilot episode, but won't do the same in future episodes.
