'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch to voice 'The Simpons' character

You know you've made it when you get to voice a character on "The Simpsons"! Okay, so Benedict Cumberbatch probably knew he made it when he was chosen to star in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel and when "Sherlock" was nominated for every award ever, but "The Simpsons" is a pretty cool perk, too.Cumberbatch was in Los Angeles when he pretty much stumbled into a part on the iconic animated series. "I was at a meeting in the same place 'The Simpsons' is recorded and heard there was a part going in an episode," he tells InStyle. "I said, 'I hate to muscle in here guys but could I record it?' Lisa Makes Lady Gaga Cry On 'The Simpsons'

Lady Gaga wants nothing more than for all her little monsters to be happy all the time, and she apparently has a psychic sense when someone is happy. It was that sense that convinced her to pull her Gaga Train into Springfield to try and cheer up one unhappy citizen on " The Simpsons " (Sun., 8 p.m. ET on Fox) season finale. After winning an award as the least popular kid at school, Lisa Simpsons faked a message board posting about herself to try and convince the other kids she wasn't as bad as they all thought. But when she got caught, her situation only went from bad to worse, and she was inconsolable. Finally, in a fit of rage over Gaga's relentless pursuit of happiness and joy -- so much so that she followed Lisa home in an attempt to cheer her up -- Lisa lashed out at the pop star with scathing remarks that reduced Gaga to tears. She even stopped wearing the myriad outlandish costumes that carried her through the episode. Gaga nearly left defeated, but apparently misdirected anger was just what Lisa needed to find clarity. So she found her happiness and sense of worth enough to join Gaga in a musical number about it. "The Simpsons" returns for Season 24 in Fall 2012 on Fox. 'The Simpsons' Dan Castellaneta: Homer has come a long way from Walter Matthau

Zap2it: When "The Simpsons" started, Homer sounded like Walter Matthau. Was there any of that in him?Dan Castellaneta: The only reason I just thought of Walter Matthau is because he had a kind of a big mouth, and Homer had a big mouth, and the characters were a little more droopy, and he seemed a little more deadpan like Walter Matthau. As it progressed Homer got a little rounder. His emotions were going all over the place. I sort of just found it by accident. I just found its place.Zap2it: When you are out, say ordering dinner, how often do people recognize your voice?Dan Castellaneta: No, people don't recognize. They may have seen me on TV in an interview situation and put two and two together.Zap2it: On a lot of animation shows, the voices are done separately. How do you get the feel of a regular performance?Dan Castellaneta: By and large everybody is in the... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/the-simpsons-dan-castellaneta-homer-has-come-a-long-way-from-walter-matthau.html
