The Strain brings a new mythos to the vampire world and a lot more. Instead of traditional fangs, these vampires have long slimy tongues to drain blood. Suspenseful and action-packed with gory effects, The Strain is a must see for the horror genre fans.

This fun, slightly campy, over-the-top vampire thriller was brought to the small screen by a trio of creative heavyweights. Carlton Cuse, who won a couple of Emmys for his work on Lost, runs the show alongside co-executive producers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, who co-wrote the best-selling trilogy on which this creepy series is based. The action begins with the delightfully named Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his Centers for Disease Control team called in to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak that began on a plane that landed in New York under very mysterious circumstances. The strain, it turns out, is an ancient form of vampirism. But it's easy to guess how well that theory goes over.

The Strain is a fantasy drama horror thriller that involves a virus(decease) that turns humans into "Strigoi". The battle for our freedom and our sanity has begun. Could you kill a loved one? A battle for New York City has arisen; humans vs the "Strigoi"; who will be the victor? The story is well drawn, the characters are well written and the cast does a fantastic job.

the pilot episode was pretty good, the second episode and onwards.. well, i just couldnt watch them all the way through, I felt like I had been thrown back to the 80's.. with the way the series is filmed and acted it leaves u feeling like you've time travelled back to when tv series were badly acted and poor quality because of technology, (no hd, digital ect..), the story behind this show is pretty good though.

EDIT: decided to give this show a second chance, seeing that it got renewed for season 3 so it had me thinking it MUST BE doing something right so i sat through season 1 and glad I did, once you get past episode 3 or 4.. the show picks up and starts to be like WOW! the effects are crazy good, i said about the story above and well I still stick by that, it's great. STILL! my only gripe with it is the seeming old way Del Toro likes to make his films/shows, like being filmed in the 80's look.. Just as well i'm NOT a major fan of his any hows, but he IS considered a horror master. With me re-watching the show.. entire of season 1 in one sitting.. iv'e changed my star rating from 2 and half to 4 .. :)

Wow, if it were a book it would have been a page turn over. Started to watch first season this week and could not stop watching. Hoping 3rd season starts soon to watch. Finally saw all seasons and the ending. Superb, it really deserves the five star rating.
