'The Taste's' Marcus Samuelsson overthinks that 'great bite' a lot

Zap2it: On your ABC series "The Taste," is there a level of anxiety that goes with the blind taste test?Marcus Samuelsson: It gets nerve-racking because you don't want to lose a good cook and then also you don't want to bite too early, and it's all strategy. And I just try to not overthink it. This year is like, 'A great bite is a great bite.' And last year I was like 'Is this a home cook? Is this a professional chef?' At the end of the day it doesn't matter. It's a bite. So it definitely was good this year with the fact that I had one year under my belt, the fact that I'm not overthinking it, is what I thought about the most.RELATED: Tony and Ludo are like 'Figure it out, man'Zap2it: When you say overthink, do you mean anticipating what you're about to try?Marcus Samuelsson: Yeah. You think about, "Oh, is... //

'The Taste' judge Marcus Samuelsson: Tony and Ludo are like, 'Figure it out for yourself, man'

Chef Marcus Samuelsson says that probably the most common mistake he's seen in his two seasons as a mentor and judge of ABC's Thursday cooking competition series "The Taste" is when contestants overcomplicate things."You want to trust ingredients and you want to trust your own cooking skills because you're there for a reason," Samuelsson, a 44-year-old Swedish native of Ethiopian ancestry, explains toZap2it. "You sent your dish cross country to get there. You know, you've got to be a really good cook just to get into those final 30. So trust that. That's what got you there in the beginning. ..."Once the competition starts, you don't know what the challenges are going to be, so there's no point for you to practice for that. That first day, when you're trying to get in the competition, you can practice for that, so do that dish and execute on that dish. Answer that question, 'What's so unique... //
