Review of The Tunnel

60 minutes

When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. However, the case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership. As the serial killer uses ever more elaborate and ingenious methods to highlight the moral bankruptcy of modern society, Karl and Elise are drawn deeper into his increasingly personal agenda. Stephen Dillane, star of Game Of Thrones, plays the British detective, Karl Roebuck. Clémence Poésy (Birdsong) is his French counterpart, Elise Wassermann.

Having enjoyed The Bridge in both its original and US forms, I was captivated by the Anglo-French version set obviously in the Channel Tunnel. Its leading stars were excellent considering Poésy played Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and Dillane stars as Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones. Gripping, thrilling and making you want to keep watching. I look forward to the potential second season should one be produced and aired in the near future.
