The Twilight Zone (1959) Reviews & Ratings

Rod Serling's seminal anthology series focused on ordinary folks who suddenly found themselves in extraordinary, usually supernatural, situations. The stories would typically end with an ironic twist that would see the guilty punished.

This the mother of all sci-fi, literally. Numerous episodes spun off into series of their own, even movies. There were a lot of episodes devoted to space travel, which, I think, led to Star Trek. Some of best sci-fi ever can be found in these episodes.

"There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space, and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone."

This is the definitive sci-fi show, up there with Star Trek. Each episode has a bit of science fiction or horror mixed in with a message that never seems heavy-handed or preachy. Once you've watched each season, it becomes clearer and clearer where a lot of science fiction movies and television get their ideas from.

I loved watching this when it was on originally and I still love watching it in re-runs. Others have tried to duplicate it, but Rod Serling had a talent and insight like no one else. It's special.

This was the original. And I likr the original.
In the late 50's, mystery and horror was something other than what it is today. And just to watch certain episodes of this show now and again is something special. Call it nostalgia or braindamaged - I stand by it. The Twilight Zone was a very good show and if you can overcome certain time specific issues (there are 55 years between now and then) then I might say, that even younger viewers might enjoy this old TV show.
