Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #13 Anime Review

With the performance by HEAVENS’ out there and powerful, knocking people off their feet seemingly literally for some of those in the audience, the stakes are certainly raised for STARISH and what they have to do. The confidence that exudes from HEAVENS’ as they finish off their performance is powerful if understated in some ways, but there’s also the way they’re simply basking in the adoration that they’re getting from the audience. And also the knowledge that their win will give them Haruka and will bring STARISH down permanently, which is their larger goal at the moment. It’s a moment that shows their ages and mentalities when they continually challenge STARISH after their performance, which certainly gets the crowd riled up. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #12 Anime Review

With Haruka having completed her work for the group, there’s definitely a whole lot of expected delight and happiness among the Starish members over reading it. This isn’t all that much of a surprise considering what she’s accomplished before as she has something of a minor track record at this point with them. Since so much of what she writes is based on the way she feels about the group individually and as a whole, it’s “easy” in a way for her as it comes naturally through those connections and bonds she shares with them. And seeing it reinforced with their reactions definitely makes it a two way street as each side of the group knows the others importance and contributions. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #11 Anime Review

The expanded use of HEAVENS’ in the previous episode certainly ratcheted up the drama in the show, as one might expect when competitive young men are going for a prize, and it works well enough within the context of how this series operates. It also deals with the kind of stakes that are at hand with the dissolution of one group when the other one wins, though obviously there’s easy gimmicks to get out of that which could be marketed quite well. But the here and now is focused on the way the group has to get their stuff together and really understand what they need to do in order to reach for that next level. Of course, it doesn’t help that several of them are feeling pretty down and confused in some ways, especially when it comes to Haruka and her need to write a killer song. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #10 Anime Review

The Starish gang has come together well in the last couple of episodes as they dealt with the issues surrounding Cecil and what he wants to do and what he really does mean to the group. Especially when it comes to how Haruka had done a lot for him and the rest realized that he had a very positive impact on her, and vice versa. A lot of it does come down to the way that they do understand that he is important to Haruka, but also that she views them all in a similar light and that they’d do the same for any of each other at this point. So with that dealt with, events shift towards dealing with the Uta Pri Award itself, which has the finalists all getting announced, including HEAVENS’, an almost comical group in some ways with their personalities. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #09 Anime Review

With a better group approach for the most part in the last episode with an expected nod toward Cecil and his issues, Uta no Prince Sama’s second season has come together fairly well and has been pretty good overall. While I liked the first season, the mix of school and song left me a little cool to it at times. This season has moved them firmly out of the school for the majority of it and we’ve gotten a working group going through their individual growth episodes, which helps to reinforce them as characters themselves. And it allows the fans to completely get behind individual episodes and characters while Haruka continues to serve as the glue that binds it all. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #08 Anime Review

With a lot of focus on the individual characters so far into the season, with at least some help from others along the way to keep it an ensemble show, things take a little but of a turn this time around. In order to get some additional training, they all head out to an out of the way posh hotel in the countryside so they can work together more as a group while also getting some individual time as well. And that means a slew of guys and one girl together with no hint of anything bad going to happen. Not here, no how. Of course, we get a few other chaperones along the way that will help with that, though they see it more as a vacation than anything else, so it’s just a giant mess of characters in a welcome change of surroundings. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #07 Anime Review

While the series focuses on the individual natures of the characters a lot, essentially giving them each their own episode in their pursuit of the Uta Pri, we do have moments where they all come together. The show did just that in the previous episode where everyone came out to help Jinguji with the fashion show as it turned badly due to a power failure. And sometimes things like that can lead to other things, such as Natsuki being scouted from it for a new commercial himself, this time a gravure job. While Satuski has done commercials before, this is obviously a little different, but he’s completely up for doing it simply because it’s work and anything can help a career sometimes. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #06 Anime Review

After focusing on Ittoki in the previous episode, which certainly had its fun, this episode shifts its focus onto Jinguji for a bit. The pressure is on the group at this point as things are starting to really ramp up in terms of competition for the Uta Pri award as another group has been nominated for the award and that means there’s a lot riding on what Starish and those in the group do to raise their image and get things rolling. The group has been doing decently overall as we’ve seen from the people that have been beefing up their experience as seen in the previous episodes, but now things are taking a curious twist as something called the Japan Boys Collection comes into play. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #05 Anime Review

Having spent its focus on Masa in the previous episode, again with some short if sharp moments with Cecil, Uta no Prince Sama continues to work its character by character kind of approach to the series. It’s something that certainly works as we see everyone bringing their A game to the table in order to achieve the Uta Pri that they want in order to further their careers, but it’s been a bit individualistic in a way that hasn’t hampered others. They’ve gotten support from each other because they know they all need to succeed in order to win what they’re after. So when someone seems like they’re practicing a bit on their own, there’s a fitting punishment or two to be offered, such as sending Ittoki off with Cecil for a TV show variety appearance together. Uta No Prince-Sama 2 Episode #04 Anime Review

With the singular character focus of each episode, Uta no Prince Sama certainly has a pretty tried and true design about it. The show spent its initial time getting us to know Haruka and her return to the campus as part of the Master Course, but the previous episode started ramping things up a bit with the Uta Pri prize that’s come into play that they all want to get. Competition among the men is normal and seeking this as a way to raise Starish’s profile is certainly warranted since it helps them all individually in the end. With the previous episode dealing with the acting side of things, this time around it shifts to the character of Masa, who certainly has the old school and classic feel about him.
