Review of Virunga

120 minutes

Part investigative journalism and part nature documentary, VIRUNGA is an acclaimed film from director Orlando von Einsiedel that follows an embattled team of park rangers and the endangered mountain gorillas they protect, as they are caught in the crossfire of poachers, militia and industry in Africa’s oldest national park.

WOW! I defy anyone to watch this and not be affected by it. An amazing documentary...and not at all what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be a documentary about poaching and gorillas, and it is, but it is so much more! Its main focus is actually the people of Virunga and the politics of Congo. I laughed with the ticklish gorillas, (I had never seen anything like that footage before), I ran with the people fleeing M23 and I was outraged by the actions of SOCO International This is an absolute must see for EVERYONE! Politics, wildlife and humanity. Few documentaries have encompassed such a range in such an engaging and affecting manner. I was straight on the internet afterwards needing to find out more!
