Review of Wayward Pines

60 minutes

Imagine the perfect American town... beautiful homes, manicured lawns, children playing safely in the streets. Now imagine never being able to leave. You have no communication with the outside world. You think you’re going insane. You must be in Wayward Pines. Based on the best-selling novel “Pines” by Blake Crouch, and brought to life as a 10-episode mini series by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense,” “Signs”), WAYWARD PINES is the intense new mind-bending event thriller evocative of the classic cult hit “Twin Peaks.”

This mini series started quite promising, but it quickly felt like all the characters were left rather simple and puppetlike, their actions simplisticly constructed to achieve predetermined twists in the plot. If the makers had taken care to maybe chose a bit less cliché dialogues to give the show a bit more depth, this could have been really nice. Instead it ended up being as entertaining as watching the cut-scenes from am average computer game - usually not terrible but mostly not really exciting either.
