Weeds: Should This Be the Final Season?

For the past couple of seasons, there have been rumblings online about just when Weeds would close up shop. Last season’s finale, the spectacular "Theoretical Love is Not Dead" , could have even served as a pretty heartwrenching series finale, as all of Nancy Botwin’s past dirty deeds (not done dirt cheap , thank you) had finally caught up to her, eventually resulting in one of the only truly selfless acts she had done in six seasons as she turned herself in to the police for a crime her young son Shane had committed. If the show had ended on the chill-inducing reveal of what exactly Plan C was, I could have been pretty happy, as the show’s entire sixth season was a creative rebound, with the finale its rim rocking slam dunk. 'Weeds' may continue past Season 7; 'Shameless' returns in January

Before the current season of "Weeds" began, there were reports that it would be its last (conflicting reports, to be sure, but it was out there nonetheless). Now, though, it sounds like the scale is tipping toward the series continuing into an eighth season on Showtime. "I'm optimistic," Showtime Entertainment president David Nevins said Thursday (Aug. 4) at the Television Critics Association press tour. "It's been an interesting year, and I'm excited for people to see where it goes by the end of the season as all the stories coalesce."Nevins also praises creator Jenji Kohan for "evolving her show and making it move in different places," which he thinks could help extend the life of the show. "I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm optimistic," he says.Other notes from Showtime's press tour session:- Three series -- two veterans and one new show -- will roll premiere Sunday, Jan. 8. "Shameless" will begin its second season... //

Weeds Episode Promo: Playing Softball, Hardball

An uneven season of Weeds continued this week with the return of Dean and a heartfelt chat between Silas and Nancy. While they were surrounded by marijuana plants, of course. What can we expect next Monday night? On the episode "Playing with Fire," Doug will play in a company softball game that finds Nancy getting close to his boss, and the SEC approaching her with an offer. Elsewhere, Silas wants to hire male models as delivery men. Check out the official Showtime trailer now: //

Heylia's Return Proves You Can't Go Home Again on 'Weeds' (VIDEO)

The action picked up this week right where we left off last week on 'Weeds' (Mon., 10:00PM ET on Showtime), with Nancy and Silas standing on Heylia's lawn and Heylia none too happy to see her former client. What we didn't expect was to see Dean Hodes come to their rescue by coming out of Heylia's house and taking the gun away from her. It wasn't enough to stop her rampage and attempts to kill Nancy, but it slowed her down enough for the situation to calm itself. It's not the kind of reunion either woman hoped for, with contention and struggling coming from both sides. Nancy was able to use what she knew about Conrad leaving Heylia for good to keep Heylia from holding him over her head, while Heylia was able to turn Silas against Nancy for lying to him about who his father was. //

Weeds Sneak Preview: A New Business Plan?

It's all Comic-Con's fault. As the resident TV Fanatic critic for Weeds , I failed to cover a major development this week because I fell asleep at about 7 p.m., following a weekend in San Diego. My apologies. But Heylia made a shocking return to conclude Monday's episode, and her appearance will play a major role on next week's "Object Impermanence." Elsewhere, Andy will introduce a new business idea to Shane and Doug. Check out the official Showtime trailer now: Read More... //

'Weeds': Martin Short Attends a 'Fingers-Only Meat Banquet' (Video)

Tempers flared on Monday's episode of "Weeds," as Nancy headed to Oakland to fight her sister, Jill (returning guest star Jennifer Jason Leigh) for custody of Little Stevie. But the cooler head of Martin Short, as Nancy's attorney Steward Havens, prevailed -- or at least made us laugh a few times. //

Nancy Advised to Seek Her Roots, Seeks Out Heylia James Instead on 'Weeds' (VIDEO)

When she discovers that her sister Jill is making a move for permanent custody on Nancy's youngest, Stevie, she secures a trip to California with her loving son Silas in tow on 'Weeds' (Mon., 10PM ET on Showtime). When they get there, though, they discover Jill has rescheduled the hearing for two months, in an apparent plan to maybe frustrate Nancy into giving up or screwing up (she can't do much more of the latter). The judge wants to give Nancy the benefit of the doubt, but he offers her some advice to get herself back into a position in her life where she'll be ready to take on Stevie again. Only the judge was asking her to go back mentally to the good mother she was before all this craziness entered her life. //
