F is for Family

If All in the Family and the Simpsons created a love child it would be F is For Family. When I heard that it was a Netflix original I didn't have much hope for this short series, but it turned out to be a fun view into a screwed up family. This hyperbolic snapshot into the 70's family unit is full of droll humor and kept afloat by references to the past and extreme stereotyping. The greatest part of this show is how the writers depict the relationships within it and carry them forward across the entire series. Many of the series' greatest moments stem from the running gags that are built up from the first episode. This is not a series that you can just pick up in the middle and fully enjoy, but it is worth the effort.

Supergirl

Supergirl has the potential to be a really good show. It seems to be following the formula of the other CW successes: Arrow and Flash. IF it holds true to the formula then it will have a shaky first season and then come on strong in its second season. So far it has really done a great job integrating others character from the DC Universe, and we can only hope for an Arrow or Flash crossover. One of the major things that doesn't really line up with the DC Universe is the Jimmy Olson character. They made him a professional character will a lot of knowledge of Superman and his abilities in order to make him a type of guru to Supergirl, but that just isn't Jimmy's character. He was always the wide eyed sidekick that got into trouble. Having him be a professional and the man with all of the answers just makes his character seem off. His character needs to be retooled so that his portrayal fits better into the series. This Jimmy Olson just doesn't fit well into the series right now but hopefully the writers will revamp him before he becomes too much of a drag on the dynamic of the show.

Ash vs. Evil Dead

Ash vd. Evil Dead brings back the same character that made us all fall in love with the Evil Dead series as well as the classic Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell returns in rare form in this revisiting of the classic, campy, horror show, and the fact that Lucy Lawless has been added as a cast member has me on the edge of my seat to find out her main but up to this point mysterious role in the show. This new series has all of the gore and humor of the original with a lot of innuendo thrown into the mix. I hope that after you watch this show it inspires you to watch the original classic B movies that inspired it, if you haven't seen them already. This is a much enjoyable series that I hope will longer than it is projected.
