This period drama is actually quite boring. There is a love story in the underlying plot that takes over the show which is a mistake in my eyes. The actual base storyline is quite captivating and bold but is over shadowed. I recommend this to only history and slow period drama fanatics.

You need to know a little about history to really appreciate this mini-series. For those who do, the sets and costumes are quite authentic to the period. It is a great story, but it is even better when you understand what was happening with King Edward II, his queen, Isabella and her paramour's (Mortimer) efforts to depose Edward from the throne to put her son, Edward III in power. My only gripe, which is common in period pieces, is that most of the cast look too well-washed and have perfect teeth. They sleep in caves and rarely bathe but look great. I shower at night, sleep in down comforters and look like the swamp woman when I wake up. Just sayin',

Surprisingly good period drama! I believe this is where I first took notice of Eddie Redmayne! He was amazing in it, as was all the other actors. It has action, love, war, and political intrigue..and probably so much more I failed to mention!
