Cousin Oliver & Company: The Best (and Worst) Late-Season Character Additions
Poochie & Roy (The Simpsons)

Even a meta-commentary on this trope qualifies. When network executives wanted to spice up the The Itchy & Scratchy Show, they brought in an edgy version of the next animal up the food chain. Voiced by Homer Simpson, Poochie was a cartoon dog with an attitude: A rappin’ surfer that was half Joe Camel and a third Fonzarelli. Unfortunately, Poochie died on his way back to his unknown home planet, which is where one would assume his home town of Gangsta City is located. When Homer lost the Poochie gig, it was a huge blow to the Simpsons’ disposable income. To make things worse, this was the same time the family suffered another economic loss when Roy, Poochie's real-life human equivalent, left the Simpson house to move in with two sexy ladies, taking his rent money with him.
