The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of January 5, 2015

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

Marvel's Agent Carter: S1E1

Marvel's Agent Carter (Series Premiere)

Tuesday at 9:00pm on ABC

Why: Because people are nuts for everything Marvel! Plus, this series takes place during the Cold War (which means suave, sexy spies) and features Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter (suave, sexy, LADY spies!). It's like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but better since it has a self-contained story and thus has a reason to exist beyond furthering Marvel's domination of the entertainment universe.

Prepare to talk about: Hayley Atwell:  suave, sexy, lady spy! How the Cold War seemed so much more dignified than anything we have going on today; how Chad Michael Murray managed to bag a pretty decent role on a pretty decent show when he definitely did NOT deserve such good fortune.

Empire: S1E1

Empire (Series Premiere)

Wednesday at 9:00pm on FOX

Why: Because it stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as (unhappily?) married heads of a hip-hop dynasty! And it's from the mind of Lee Daniels (of Lee Daniels' The Butlerand it stars Gabourey Sidibe, who is just delightful. I don't know, it just looks f**kin' cool. Can't we just watch things because they're cool? Does everything have to mean something? No, right?

Prepare to talk about: Who is hotter: Taraji P. Henson or Terrence Howard? Whether the OMGDRAMA on this show gives the citizens of Shondaland a run for their money; which real life hip-hop moguls could be the basis for the show because SUCH JUICY GOSSIPNESS!

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards

Sunday at 8:00pm on NBC

Why: Because your other option is to watch HBO's Sunday night slate of navel-gazing, self-indulgent, hipper-than-thou, better-living-through-pharmacology-centered series and, well, no. And I say that as someone who is all of the above multi-hyphenate adjectives. Plus, Tina and Amy! Who doesn't love Tina and Amy?

Prepare to talk about: The typical awards show stuff like who got zinged, who was undeserving, who wore a butt-ugly dress, and who was the zaniest. If in doubt, just say, like, "Oh, zany celebs, why are you so zany?" and then shake your head and laugh a little and no one will know that you may have just curled up with a good book and watched the most "viral" parts on YouTube.

why would you say an actor does not deserve a show. Everyone makes mistakes doesn't mean they should never get hired again
