The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of August 17, 2015

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

Mr. Robot: S1E8

Mr. Robot

Wednesday at 10:00pm on USA

Why: Because of last week's reveal that Mr. Robot is [spoiler but you know what I'm talking about and it was totally obvious anyway]! It's all very Blacklist, you know? Oh, what the hell, let's just come out with it and say that Mr. Robot is Elliot's DAD! THE DAD HE THOUGHT WAS DEAD! Turns out he's still alive — and he looks like Christian Slater! But they're still going after E(vil) Corp. because... plot?

Prepare to talk about: How Mr. Robot should totally have a crossover with The Blacklist (I was just reminded recently that back in the day people thought Heroes was in the same world as Lost, and yeah, they were both in the terrible TV show world); whether taking down E(vil) Corp. is still worth it now that Elliot's dad is alive and well (or at least alive and nuts); whether Mr. Robot/Dad is kind of a bad influence on Elliot.

The Unauthorized Full House Story

The Unauthorized Full House Story

Saturday at 8:00pm on Lifetime

Why: Have you met a millennial recently? Millennials LOVE Full House. Or at least they're not immune to the charms of nostalgia and, unfortunately, Full House is something they watched when they were younger and dumber and understood the world somewhat less than they do now. That's why Fuller House (ugh) is coming out. That's also why Lifetime is making yet another "unauthorized" story of a terrible show that millennials loved (I'm looking at you Saved By the Bell) and why the internet will go nuts over it. Plus, the wigs look hilarious.

Prepare to talk about: Oh gosh, what isn't there to talk about? OK, let's say you should be prepared to say the following: Yeah, the show was hilariously terrible, but I loved it. This movie is also hilariously terrible, but in a totally different way, and I love it, too. You got it, dude/how rude/cut it out.

Fear the Walking Dead: S1E1

Fear the Walking Dead (Series Premiere)

Sunday at 9:00pm on AMC

Why: Surely you've heard of The Walking Dead. No? Then let me just ask where the rock is that you've been living under and how do I get there? But if, unlike our friend Sir Rockhome here, you have heard of this show, then do you really need any prodding from me? TWD is a freaking phenomenon, and a spinoff was a no-brainer. Plus, the spinoff is set in LA, which some people think is already full of zombies, so WHATEVS. New people, new problems, same zombies. End. Of. Discussion.

Prepare to talk about: How Fear the Walking Dead is a terrible name for a show and Go Shit Your Pants Because There Are Zombies would be much better and descriptive; whether you prefer Rick & Co. to these newbies; whether zombies in LA is the perfect marriage of subject and medium.
