The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of September 7, 2015

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert: S1E1

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (Series Premiere)

Tuesday at 11:35pm on CBS

Why: Over the last two years, we've witnessed a once-in-a-generation mass changeover in late night hosts. Stephen Colbert has been on TV my entire adult life, but now he's just going to be Stephen Colbert instead of... "Stephen Colbert." You know what I mean. Besides, the Jimmys of ABC and NBC are so irritating that we need Colbert's particular brand of weird to make late night actually interesting again.

Prepare to talk about: Can Stephen Colbert replace David Letterman, like, for real? Will he bring back any of Letterman's amazing segments (like, say, "Will It Float?")? Whether or not it's weird to see him as Stephen Colbert instead of "Stephen Colbert."

Under the Dome: S3E13

Under the Dome (Series Finale)

Thursday at 10:00pm on CBS

Why: This show is ENDING and I'm legit heartbroken even though I haven't watched it regularly since season 1 because it was so stupid — albeit endearingly so. Anyway, they're all still UNDER THE DOME, but I assume that this being the series finale they might be OUT OF THE DOME? Maybe they'll miss it. Maybe they'll end up with StockDOME Syndrome.

Prepare to talk about: Whether they'll end up being homesick for the dome (I'll be honest: this sentence was just an excuse for me to propose the term "domesick"); what Barbie will do post-dome; whether your life will be the same now that you no longer have Under the Dome to look forward to.

The 2016 Miss America Pageant

The 2016 Miss America Pageant

Sunday at 9:00pm on ABC

Why: Because this pageant is a goddamn institution, that's why! You really need a reason to watch Miss America other than that it's the only thing that makes sense in our crazy modern age? Fine! Chris Harrison (The Bachelor/ette) is hosting and maybe you like him. I'm going to storm off in a huff now.

Prepare to talk about: Whose "talent" is the most cramazing; how hosting Miss America is not really all that dissimilar from hosting The Bachelor; how you should probably rewatch Miss Congeniality because it's been way too long.
