The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of March 7, 2016

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.

Bates Motel: S4E1

Bates Motel (Season Premiere)

Monday at 9:00pm on A&E

Why: If you recall, the previous season concluded with Norman bashing sweet (ok, not that sweet) Bradley's head into a rock...repeatedly...so Norman will have a lot of explaining to do, not that that he will even remember. Can Norma get poor Norman the mental health care he so desperately needs (well, guess not, but she's sure gonna try)? And who's Norman going to kill next? Eventually it's gotta be Norma (hello, Psycho!), but the big question is...when in this series will that occur?

Prepare to talk about: Are we into Dylan and Emma as a thing?; are we into Norma and Romero as a thing?; are we into Norman and Norma as a thing? (j/k); how damn creepy Norman is when he assumes the Mother personality (kudos Freddie Highmore, because the answer is VERY creepy).

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: S3E11

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Midseason Premiere)

Tuesday at 9:00pm on ABC

Why: Because we are excited to meet the new character we've been promised: Elena Rodriguez, an Inhuman with super speed, nicknamed Slingshot. And speaking of Inhumans, aren't you curious how long this new Ward will be sticking around, what his powers are, and just how evil he will end up being? What should we even call him? "Ward"? NuWard? 2Ward? Hive-Ward? Just Hive? That seems boring.

Prepare to talk about: How Coulson is darker and all tortured now (good? bad?); how Ward is the villain that just keeps on villain-ing, huh (yes, I know he's not technically Ward anymore, but in your heart he still kind of is AND the end result is that Brett Dalton gets to remain employed); how this show has really hit its stride lately.

American Crime: S2E01

American Crime (Season Finale)

Wednesday at 10:00pm on ABC

Why: We need to know what exactly happened at that damn party that triggered the events of Season 2! Will we ever truly know? Will there be justice for the shooting? How long will Taylor be going to jail for? How sympathetic are we towards him? Will Becca be implicated in the case? Yeesh. There is no way this episode can wrap everything up, right?

Prepare to talk about: How this show is NOT the same show as American Crime Story (confusing though); how this show is full of terrible people - children and adults; how Leslie is the worst and we hate Leslie UGH (<3 Felicity Huffman, though); if we think this show will be getting a third season?

Rachel is a product manager at SideReel and has worked there practically forever. She really hopes that JoJo will be the next Bachelorette.

Cannot wait for the next bout of cinematic creepiness courtesy of Bates Motel. Norman has finally gone off the deep end, Psycho here we come!

If you're a fan of Psycho, I recommend reading/youtubing Slavoj Žižek's analysis of the film, and how each floor of the Bates motel relates to different parts of Norman's psychology - Id, Ego, and Superego. It's super interesting, and brings a whole new dimension to the movie at least.

I thought the Motel was one floor. Do you mean house?
