Those of us enamored of ’90s indie-rock and shoegaze—think Swervedriver, specifically, but extrapolate—fell quickly in love with Cheatahs. The band formed in London a few years ago, but features players from all over: England, Canada, Germany, and the U.S. Just this year saw the release of an excellent self-titled debut and a U.S. tour with a similarly misspelled band, Eagulls. Cheatahs tackled one of the most beloved songs on this year’s list, Big Country’s “In A Big Country,” which was a pretty massive hit for the Scottish band in 1983. Though frequently resigned to the one-hit-wonder bin, Big Country put out several well-respected records after the big hit. Cheatahs do an excellent job here swirling things up, and they get a little assist from a bunch of Onion and A.V. Club staffers, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
