Ben Watt is half of Everything But The Girl, the long-running but largely inactive duo rounded out by his wife, Tracey Thorn. The two brought their group to a halt in the late ’90s, not too long after scoring sizable hits with “Missing” and “Walking Wounded,” but Watt kept busy with a dance-music label, Buzzin’ Fly, and Thorn has released a handful of solo albums over the years. Watt just released his second-ever solo album, Hendra, a mere 21 years after his first—it’s a quiet, contemplative set he created with guitarist Bernard Butler, who’s best known as part the original Suede lineup. Throughout his career, Watt has sprinkled interesting cover versions into his work; here, he and Butler take on Wang Chung’s “Dance Hall Days.” The song was a hit right around the time Watt was starting out, and his take is lovely and gentle. Enjoy, and if you’re so inclined, revisit Wang Chung’s visit to the Undercover studio (doing a Modest Mouse cover)
