Benjamin Booker takes bits and pieces from soul, garage rock, and blues, then pushes and pulls at them until they’re his own. The young singer-songwriter has scored some plum opening slots since releasing his excellent self-titled debut last year, playing big theaters with Jack White—and joining him onstage on occasion—and opening elsewhere for Courtney Barnett. Here, he works some magic with Patsy Cline’s biggest hit, 1957’s “Walkin’ After Midnight.” It’s been covered a million times, but Booker brought something new to it here.
