Colin Hay is best known as the singer of Australian ’80s superstars Men At Work, who sold tens of millions of albums more than three decades ago. He’s had a steady solo career since, putting out thoughtful albums anchored by his unmistakable voice—and he popped into the greater consciousness via a few appearances as himself on Scrubs, and with a song on the Garden State soundtrack. Here, he takes on The Velvet Underground’s “She’s My Best Friend.” Not exactly the influential band’s biggest hit, the original version wasn’t even sung by Lou Reed, but by Doug Yule (though Reed wrote it and would later re-record it solo-style). Fun fact: The idea to invite Hay in for Undercover was inspired by hearing Men At Work’s “Overkill” at the grocery store and remembering what an incredible voice he has. He even played it for us as a bonus, which we’ll run later this year
