Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #12 Anime Review

With the shift in narrative from big, flouncy fanservice moments to the all out action as Miu’s life is threatened from her home world, it’s followed a tradition many series have, for better or worse. Of course, it upped the ante in the previous episode with Akatsuki taking on a lot of the heat to help her out as he has to go up against Phil the dragon. While I certainly like the fantasy elements that have come into play from her original world before coming here, there’s something rather laugh inducing about having the big bad villain being named Phil, even when he transforms into this impressive and dangerous looking dragon. It just undermines itself without knowing that it’s doing so. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #11 Anime Review

With the fight in the previous episode going against Phil pretty heavily (and yes, it still feels awkward to have a powerful opponent named Phil), events have forced his already over the top behavior and unhinged nature to cut loose by going all transformational. Into that of a giant dragon. Which actually does cause some concern for Akatsuki since there’s a whole host of problems to be had with that. And it’s not something that’s just going to affect him as we see others in BABEL getting quite concerned about the thunderous arrival of a massive silver dragon that looks decidedly unhappy about everything. Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #10 Anime Review

With the ranking battle now pushed to the side after some less than quick thinking in the previous episode, everything finally landed in a position where Akatsuki now gets to fight. He’s had some mild moments here and there, but mostly in the series he’s come across as a somewhat perverted older man protecting a younger woman while seeing what he can score elsewhere. With Burnett having crossed over to now go after Miu, it’s set off his protective nature in a big way and he’s launched a straight on attack after seeing how damaged Miu seems. Of course, she’s kept safely to the side as the two of them go back and forth with Burnett throwing in a few verbal barbs here and there to throw off Akatsuki. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #09 Anime Review

With the Ranking Battle underway, things turned south pretty quickly for everyone involved, though there was a lot of time with the grouping that came together and some silly fanservice. The battle itself was more show and setup as we got introduced to the lands and how the whole battle operates, which is kind of simplistic and amusing in its own way as it’s riffing on the whole Hunger Games concept nicely with how people get taken out. But why that was going into play, and as various girls aligned around Akatsuki, the forces from the other side started to make their way into this world in order to retrieve and eliminate Miu because of her parentage. Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #08 Anime Review

With the show having teased a bit of what’s to come as the season draws to a close with forces that will come hunting for Miu, the show decides of course to pivot in another direction. Well, pivot may be harsh since it had come up before, but it’s definitely going to save the big fighting material with magic abound for the upcoming episodes as everything draws to a close. What we get here is just more of the same kind of silliness as it’s essentially a form of a sports festival as the ranking battles begin. Pitting student against student in competitive nature isn’t a bad thing and ranking them by skill and achievement can certainly inspire and encourage some. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #07 Anime Review

With a series like this, there usually isn’t a lot of thought given to balancing out the fanservice and the action/story components. We saw that in spades recently with the whole underwear shopping episode and bits since then that have been more about the silly than the serious. Which to some degree is fine. With this episode though, with it now getting past the halfway mark in the season, the focus is shifting to adding more story to events. Heck, we even get some material early on from the other world with the varied forces that are aligned to hunt down Miu as she’s the Dark Lord’s daughter that they can’t let get away, even if most of those from his domain have gone quiet since his death. Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #06 Anime Review

After an episode focused on buying clothes and undergarments, can the show go any lower? Hopefully not as that episode, while it had its moments of fanservice, was definitely a low point for things that you don’t want to see how it can go lower. Thankfully, things get moving in a decent direction here as it works through some basic school related stuff, giving us the kids dealing with tests, doing good and bad and just going through the normal routine. That may not seem like much, but it’s a bump up over what came before and takes us away from that awful fanservice fest that we had. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #05 Anime Review

As time has gone on, Miu has adapted fairly well to the world that Akatsuki comes from and he points this out when the two go and do the food shopping together and he sees how she’s progressed. He’s also interested in making sure that she’s well taken care of, within reason, and knows that there are things to deal with. Some of them are a little awkward to say the least, such as the fact that she is wearing his sisters undergarments and they’re not really fitted for her since she’s a bit more stacked. So that leads Akatsuki, Miu and a few others to head to the large and imposing shopping district in order to get her properly set up. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #04 Anime Review

With the show having settled a little bit in the third episode, I’m not finding myself really enthused for it. There’s been some interesting elements to it but the way everything has come together has left me less than thrilled with it. Some shows can overcome a poor initial execution and setup though to deliver something good along the way and end well. With the academy at hand here where we see people that come from other worlds, we’ve gotten a better handle on Akatsuki and what he’s capable of. In particular, he’s done really well with the battle at the start here with the Cockatrice thanks to the weapon he now has. That’s dealt with quickly and harshly, though it’s not exactly a high stakes moment. READ MORE...

Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero Episode #03 Anime Review

First impressions are difficult to shake, both within shows and with the show itself. With the second episode of Aesthetitica of a Rogue Hero, Akatsuki has made a poor impression on some of the students at the school because of the trouble he got into, which has lots of the student council and disciplinary members now watching him. He’s in that awkward position now where if things go too wrong, it’ll go badly for him. Not that it would stop him in the slightest, though he does know how to finagle things. His encounter with Onizuka early on here shows that he won’t back down and has found a way to make a new reputation for himself because of it. READ MORE...
