'Ben and Kate' premiere: What did you think of the family comedy?

While FOX has the market cornered on quirky ladies ("New Girl," "The Mindy Project"), it's also got itself a nice lineup of quirky family comedies too ("Raising Hope," the entire Sunday night Animation Domination lineup). With "Ben and Kate," the network has combined the two genres into one adorable sitcom. The debut episode featured our single mom, Kate (Dakota Johnson) and her wayward, young-at-heart brother, Ben (Nat Faxon) reuniting in their childhood home to raise Kate's young daughter, Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), together. The family unit has great chemistry together, and we genuinely like them right away (which means we're rooting for them).RELATED: "Ben and Kate" and more of fall's must-see new shows Adding another layer of fun are Lucy Punch and Echo Kellum as Kate and Ben's friends. Both are wacky yet grounded enough to be relatable -- great foils for Ben and Kate and Maddie. 'Ben and Kate's' Dakota Johnson: 'I want Kate to be accessible to everyone'

One of the fall's most delightful new comedies, FOX's "Ben and Kate," which premieres Tuesday, Sept. 25, revolves around a pair of odd-couple siblings (Nat Faxon, Dakota Johnson) joined at the hip following a childhood that clearly was no bed of roses.Forced by aloof parents to more or less parent each other, Ben and Kate Fox have spent their recent years living in different California cities. At the moment, Kate is working as a bar manager to support Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), her precocious daughter, whose unplanned arrival five years ago forced Kate to drop out of college just shy of graduation and put her life on hold, acting responsibly and following the rules, just as she has all her life. That structured world gets turned upside down in the series premiere with the arrival of irrepressible big brother Ben, who needs to crash on her couch for a few days while he prevents a woman... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/09/ben-and-kates-dakota-johnson-i-want-kate-to-be-accessible-to-everyone.html

'Ben and Kate' creator Dana Fox loves her cast

Getting a TV show made into a pilot is hard enough, but getting that pilot ordered by a network for a first season is near-impossible if you look at the odds. So it's pretty exciting that screenwriter Dana Fox landed a show, FOX's new comedy "Ben and Kate," on her first try. "When you do a pilot, you don't know if you've accidentally caught lightning in a bottle," she tells Zap2it ahead of her show's premiere. It makes sense that the sitcom gelled so well together, considering the titular Ben (Nat Faxon), a young-at-heart screwup who moves home to help his single mom sister raise her kid, is loosely based on her own brother.RELATED: "Ben and Kate" and more of fall's must-see new shows Because the show is so close to her heart, it also makes sense that Fox is so invested in the actors who are bringing her characters to life. Ben and Kate's Nat Faxon on Why Viewers Should "Love and Respect" His Goofy Character

Shows like The New Normal and Modern Family have made nontraditional families a staple of prime-time television, and those keeping track of that growing roster can add Ben and Kate to the list. The Fox sitcom, which premieres Tuesday at 8:30/7:30c, revolves around single mom Kate ( Dakota Johnson ) and her good-hearted slacker brother Ben ( Nat Faxon ), who moves in with his sister to help raise her young daughter Maddie ( Maggie Elizabeth Jones ).
