First of all, its about time that other ethnic groups, especially Asians, get to show that their lives are as normal as the rest of us. Especially if it will help the world to become adjusted to seeing these people in the same roles as the typical family on primetime TV. Dr. ken was funny in 'Hangover' and he sure is funny here. It ranks up there with stand-up comedy in that he is simply being himself. Comedy is not an easy task, it takes wit, timing and intellect. This show succeeds in all 3 categories. It is as funny as 'Big Bang Theory' , 'Modern Family' or any other popular comedy out there and it deserves to be considered with the same regard. Want to know what to expect? Imagine other 'nerd-slash-think he is cool' kinds of comedy. The underdog if you will. They have broken stereotypes with these scripts and characters. Yet they still pay homage to their Korean and Chinese cultures. Think Karate Kid wasn't a comedy? Try to recall Mr.Miyagi's straight-faced humor. Mix it in with some 'Martin' and you get Dr.Ken. Dr.Ken makes me chuckle at almost every line. The more Ken tries to be good at something or get out of trouble the funnier he becomes. His son the brainiac, who is unknowingly socially awkward, his wife the' straight guy' to Dr, Ken's funny man, his daughter the typical teenage drama queen who isn't as smart as she believes and the characters at his office, have all been well cast and all add their own flavor to their roles. Comedies are about feel-good feelings, lightheartedness, and often read between the lines irony. This is what Dr. Ken delivers. I hope they will get a third season and not disappear like so many ethnic TV shows are prone to do. I enjoy tuning in every Friday to see what mischief Dr. Ken or his family will get up to next. Notably, the grandfather who has a revolving role, is just as funny as Ken even in his very serious facade. All in all I find this show very entertaining!
