A skeleton from a seven year old murder case is found buried in the woods and doubts are cast on the conviction of the confessed killer. Inspector Mallory and Father Brown reinvestigate the murder. Sid Carter brings letters for Father Brown and Bunty; and a Christmas present for Mrs McCarthy. Father Brown, Mrs McCarthy, and Bunty audition for the local amateur pantomime, Cinderella, but do not get the roles expected. Sid is recruited to partner Father Brown; Mallory and Sergeant Goodfellow also get roles as the ugly sisters. When an accident happens during rehearsals; Father Brown realises the truth lies within the theatre.
