Food Network Star Finale Recap 8/13/17: Season 13 Episode 11 “The Newest Food Network Star”

The remaining three contestants join Bobby and Giada at the Kings Theatre. All the previous contestants are also there. The Food Network Star executives, Bobby and Giada have all watched the pilots that were shot last week. Rusty, Cory and Jason have each had a lot of fun getting this point in the competition. Clips from Rusty’s journey are shown first. Rusty is a big personality and was loud a lot of the time. Several clips are shown where he also had trouble getting the words out of his mouth. Overall he was very likable and had a lot of laughs. Rusty’s pilot is played and he highlights the restaurant, Magee’s. They are famous for their French Dip sandwich and delicious Au Jus. He did a great job. Giada loved it as did the other contestants. Cory is the next to be profiled and Bobby teases him about how much he has been on social media. Giada says his journey was a little rocky. Several clips are shown of people saying how wonderful Cory’s food is but he struggled with his presentations several times. Cory was actually eliminated from the show but won Star Salvation and earned a spot back in the competition. Cory’s pilot is shown and he presents Loteria Grill. He also does an amazing job. Food Network Star Recap 8/6/17: Season 13 Episode 10 “Who Wants a Pilot?”

The show begins with the three remaining contestants entering the kitchen. There is just one challenge standing in the way of filming a pilot to become the next Food Network Star. Bobby then shares that all of the previously eliminated contestants had a cook-off to determine which one would return to the show to continue the competition. Star Salvation was shown earlier and the winner is Cory. He joins the other three in the kitchen. Each of the four now must make a dish that perfectly expresses who they are. Then they will then have one minute to present their dish. The top three contestants will then film a pilot for their possible new show. All of the previously eliminated chefs return to the kitchen and the remaining contestants draw names to see who will be their assistant while they cook their dish. Matthew draws first and picks Addie’s name. He is not sure if they are a good match. Jason picks Suzanne and he is not happy. She had really struggles while she was in the kitchen last time. Food Network Star Recap 7/30/17: Season 13 Episode 9 “Game Day Special”

The Final Four contestants are welcomed back to the kitchen by Giada. Today the show will hit the road and each contact will visit a food truck and report back. Rusty is assigned the truck that specializes in fish tacos. Matthew will visit the truck that specializes in Hawaiian cuisine. Amy is not sure if she is excited or not when Giada gives her the Italian food truck and Jason is given the grilled cheese truck. Bobby introduces Sabin Lomac who will be the guest judge for the night. Each contestant goes to their food truck and meets the owner and learns about their specialty foods. The contestants must find a dish that speaks to them and then present it to the judges in a two-minute live segment. Matthew is the first up and does a wonderful job. The judges are impressed with his performance. Rusty is up next and the judges laugh that it was kind of like a home invasion. Rusty yelled at the food truck owner and never allowed him to speak. The judges love in Rusty in general but all agree he was too aggressive in this segment. Jason goes live from the grilled cheese truck. He didn’t plan well. The dish he highlights takes over two minutes to cook and he only has two minutes for his whole presentation. Jason runs out of time and the judges agree this is the least interesting thing he has done in the competition so far. Amy is the last to present and did a great job. The judges agree that she made it fun for the audience. The performances are judged by the ability of the contestants to connect and present in a live situation. Food Network Star Recap 7/23/17: Season 13 Episode 8 “Cooking Goes Live!”

Tonight’s Sunday July 23 episode of Food Network Star recap begins now – Refresh Page often to get the most current updates! Five contestants remain in the competition to become the Next Food Network Star. Amy knows that if she repeats the mistakes she made last week she will be gone. The host of Ginormous Food, Josh Denny, joins Giada and Bobby to outline the next challenge. The contestants will be required to create a ginormous dish of common popular foods in just 30 minutes. Jason picks Stuffed French Toast, Rusty picks Cheeseburger, Matthew picks Grilled Cheese, Amy gets Pancakes and Cory picks Spaghetti & Meatballs. The contestants will be using their normal kitchen to make their huge food items. This means they will have to come up with some kitchen hacks to make it work. Once their food is complete they will each make a one minute video sharing their kitchen hack with the audience. Brandi Milloy joins Giada and Bobby as a judge of the contestant’s creations. Food Network Star Recap 7/16/17: Season 13 Episode 7 “Beat Bobby Flay”

Five contestants enter the kitchen but Cory is missing. He is ill but they hope he will rejoin the group soon. Amy Alarocon, vice president of Popeye Chicken, tells the group the importance of maximizing flavor in a dish while making it fast. The group’s first challenge is to make a dish that usually takes hours to make in just 30 minutes without sacrificing any flavor. Matthew must make Coq Au Vin in a pastry. Abby must make chili con carne into a ball. Rusty will make boeuf bourgeon on a stick. Jason will cook an osso bucco in a wrap. David will make a pot roast sandwich. Abby struggles to get her chili to stay in a ball shape. Matthew breezes by and is done in 20 minutes. David also has no problems. Each contestant has one minute to present their dish to judges. Jason does a great job with both his presentation and cooking. Giada and Bobby loved his meal. Matthew presents next and admits that he didn’t even know what Coq au Vin was until Jason told him. His meal is not great. The chili he added over powered everything else. David’s sandwich is also too spicy. He also included a sauce which can be eaten with one hand. The judges enjoyed Abby’s presentation and feel she is really improving but her chili is very chewy. Rusty presents next and hits it out of the park with both his presentation and meal. Food Network Star Recap 7/9/17: Season 13 Episode 6 “Summer Party Playoffs”

The contestants enter the kitchen and Giada tells them they are officially at the mid-point of the competition. Bobby explains that their mid-term exam will consist of making a special personalized dish using potatoes. The dish needs to be something that can only be made by them. Each contestant will then have one minute to explain the dish on camera. Cory will make a roast pork lion with sweet potato hash and apples. Jason starts cooking uptown sweet potato with bourbon and bacon. Addie plans pac-man potatoes – red potatoes. Amy makes oven roast beef tenderloin with potatoes, arugula and a chimichurri dressing. Rusty makes purple potato cakes with bacon and tomato jam. David makes curried potatoes with seafood. Matthew makes a masked potato with cheddar cheese and roasted poblano peppers. Cory is the first to present his dish and struggles. He gets nervous and looks down more than at the judges but his food tastes great. Amy shows a big improvement. Bobby and Giada both loved her presentation but her dish is not the best. Her sauce is overpowering. Rusty starts strong but finishes with 10 seconds left and stands there in silence. Food Network Star Recap 6/25/17: Season 13 Episode 4 “Glamping”

Tonight’s Sunday June 25 episode of Food Network Star recap begins now – Refresh Page often to get the most current updates! The teams ride to their next destination and Giada appears on a screen in their TVs. She tells them teams of three will be going camping. While camping they will be tasked with making dishes from food items usually brought on camp outs. The contestant’s job is to transform classic camping food into something fresh and creative. She tells them to think glamping rather than camping. The teams are Matthew, Cory and Amy who will be making fried chicken, potato cakes and stuffing with vegetables. Jason, David and Cao will be making fried chicken, potato salad and baked beans. Trace, Rusty and Addie are making BBQ chicken, potato salad and soup in a bell pepper. The teams have 90 minutes to make their meals for families who are a camping trip. The guest judges for this week are Andrew Zimmern and Melissa D’Arabian. Food Network Star Recap 6/18/17: Season 13 Episode 3 “All-Terrain Eats”

Giana tells the 10 remaining contestants that they will be divided into two teams. Each team must create an experiential restaurant that will serve a five course meal. Each team member will be responsible for creating one course of the meal. Matthew is immediately disappointed that it is another team challenge but decides he needs to step up and be a leader of his team. The team captains are Addie and Cory because they did the best in last week’s challenge. Addie picks Jason as her first team member because he can make a great dessert. Cory choices Rusty for his big and bold choices. Addie then adds Cao, Amy, and Matthew. Cory picks Trace, David and Suzanne since she is the only chef left. The themes are first course – appetizer and jungle, second course -seafood and beach, third course – pasta and forest, fourth is meat and desert and the final course is dessert and mountains. Food Network Star Recap 6/11/17: Season 13 Episode 2 “Beauty and the Beast”

Giada introduces the theme of the next challenge which is hospitality. The contestants must host a party for fans of Beautiful and the Beast. They then watch the scene from the movie where the castle comes alive around the dinner party. The contestants are divided into three teams and must create a menu and design a table scape. The contestants create their teams on their own. Matt is nervous because he ends up with Nancy and Toya who were both in the bottom three in the first episode. Rusty and David both are unhappy to be teamed with Suzanne. Each team is assigned a room in the castle and a dining experience to host. Cory, Trace, Amy and Addie are given an afternoon tea in the library. Rusty, Suzanne, David and Jason are given Hors d’Oeuves in the ballroom. Nancy, Cao, Matthew and Toya are given brunch in the dining room. The contestants are expected to use the finest French ingredients. Food Network Star Premiere Recap 6/4/17: Season 13 Episode 1 “Auditions”

Each contestant must take the stage for 30 seconds and introduce themselves to Bobby and Giada. Toya, a personal chef from Louisiana goes first. She wants to have a show called "Big Easy Cooking" which would highlight the hot spots of New Orleans. Bobby tells her he really didn’t get to know her though her introduction. Next up is Suzanne who is a personal chef from Detroit. She gives a laundry list of details but runs out of time before she gets passed a basic description of her life. Bobby says while she gave a lot of information he doesn’t think he knows much about her. David takes the stage next and says most know him as Big Swole, especially the ladies. He is from Jamaica and when he is not in the kitchen he is riding his motorcycle. Blake introducing himself next. He is a home cook who wants to show that healthy cooking doesn’t have to be hard. Bobby and Giada tell him he has to make healthy eating exciting and mouthwatering. Nancy takes the stage and she has 8 grandchildren and used to fly astronauts.
