Hank Azaria, Kathryn Hahn now 'Free Agents': NBC cancels low-rated comedy

A portentous show title if ever there were one, the cast of "Free Agents" is now without a team. NBC has canceled the freshman comedy -- starring Hank Azaria, Kathryn Hahn and Anthony Head -- after just four episodes. The most recent outing of "Free Agents" managed to earn an audience of just 3.3 million, with a 2.2 rating/4 share of households. That was nearly a 50-percent drop from lead-in and fellow NBC newbie "Up All Night," which was already renewed for an entire season along with "Whitney." "Free Agents," which followed the romantic foibles of two unlucky-in-love public relations executive, is only the second cancellation of the new season. NBC's "Playboy Club" was canceled on Oct. 4.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/hank-azaria-kathryn-hahn-now-free-agents-nbc-cancels-low-rated-comedy.html

Free Agents' Anthony Stewart Head on his Dysfunctional Character, 'Buffy' and 27 Pets

You may know Anthony Stewart Head as the pervy, Michael Scott-like, socially unaware boss on the new NBC comedy Free Agents .  But I simply know him as Giles, Buffy's upper-crust watcher in the cult-favorite television series,  Buffy the Vampire Slayer .  I spoke to Head, the actor who played/plays both roles at the press tour this summer about  Buffy ,  Free Agents , and just how much of an animal lover him and his wife are.   A cardinal rule of interviewing anyone from  Buffy  is that no matter what current project they're working on, Buffy  must be mentioned.  So I brought it up first so we could segue into his new role on  Free Agents .  I asked Head if he's still in touch with his costars from a show that actually began its run in 1997!  Head emphatically responded, "Oh God, yes!  I think of it [his time on  Buffy ] so fondly! Emma [Caulfield, who played Anya] just came to London not too long ago.  Alyson [Hannigan] and Alexis [Denisof] I see when I come to town, Sarah Michelle [Gellar] sends me films of her daughter growing up and I hope to see her when I'm in town now.  Nicky [Nicholas Brendon] I just saw at Comic Con, Joss [Whedon] I just saw at Comic Con, so yes.  James [Marsters] I haven't seen for awhile, but when he was playing in England, I went to a few of his gigs."   Read More... . //www.buddytv.com/articles/free-agents/exclusive-interview-free-agent-41921.aspx

Meanwhile, Helen (Kathryn Hahn) takes Alex’s advice to visit his therapist, the handsome Dr. Hu (Ian Anthony Dale, "The Event"), but she finds herself thinking she would rather date him than see him professionally. The Hangover’s Rachael Harris To Guest Star On FREE AGENTS

The Hangover’s Rachael Harris has signed on to guest star in the Hank Azara and Kathryn Hahn comedy  FREE AGENTS ,  EW  has reported. The new show follows Azara and Haghn as two devasted PR co-workers who find a strange and quirky comfort in one another. Unfortunately working together poses a problem for the two! The series also stars Anthony Head ( Buffy The Vampire Slayer,  Merlin ), Natasha Leggero ( He’s Just Not That Into You, The 70?s  House ) and Al Madrigal ( Gary Unmarried,The Ortegas ). Harris is slated toplay  Edith, Hahn’s on screen  sister in law who shows up to ask Helen to be the godmother of her child. The fact that the two characters are reportedly polar  opposites when it comes to child rearing should bring some great laughs to the new series. Rachael Harris is scheduled to appear in two episodes this season. Charm-Free Agents

Eesh. Are we supposed to like these people? Last night, NBC did itself no favors by premiering  Free Agents  right after its much-more likable effort,  Up All Night . Talk about suffering by comparison. Whereas the  Applegate - Arnett  comedy has charm, potential and Maya Rudolph, this  Hank Azaria  thing had... Hank Azaria's pecs. Seriously, those jarringly hairless man-mounds should have gotten a mention in the credits between the opening bedroom scene and that way-too clingy t-shirt he was sporting right after. Oh,  Agents  also had the fabulous  Kathryn Hahn , who is capable of so much more than just hamming it up as a widow prone to sleeping with Azaria's needy divorcee when not guzzling wine and making out with portraits of her dead fiancé. 'Free Agents' Premiere: Secret Sex Partners Make for Interesting Work Days (VIDEO)

'Free Agents' Season 1, Episode 1 - 'Pilot' 'Free Agents' (Wed., 10:30PM ET on NBC) is a perfectly acceptable new comedy. It's just also rather unremarkable so far. For the most part, it's another office ensemble, but so far no one in the office has managed to break beyond the second dimension. Even Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn are so deep in their individual, but very similar, character quirks, that they forgot to be well-rounded characters we could believe in. There were a few laughs, though, like when Alex (Azaria) was put on the spot in the morning meeting about his exploits the night prior and he made up a series of sexual positions he supposedly explored. //www.aoltv.com/2011/09/15/free-agents-premiere-secret-sex-partners-video/

'Free Agents': Did Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hanh intrigue you?

"Free Agents" premiered Wednesday night (Sept. 14) on NBC. It tells the story of Hank Azaria's Alex and Kathryn Hanh's Helen, co-workers who hook up but are maybe not quite ready for a new relationship.Alex is coming off a messy divorce, while Helen is recovering from her fiance's death a year prior. What did you think of the premiere? As our reviewer Rick Porter points out, it's not a straight comedy. That was much what we liked about the premiere. It actually made us sad in parts, which is the mark of a good show - humor and sadness. We also thought Hanh and Azaria had great chemistry together.Which is no surprise, considering the mad crushes they had on each other when they signed on to the show. "I had a big creative crush on her for a long time," says Azaria. "We weren't really looking to do something like this right now, but we couldn't... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/09/free-agents-did-hank-azaria-and-kathryn-hanh-intrigue-you.html

'Up All Night' and 'Free Agents': TV Reviews

The NBC comedy  Up All Night , which premieres at 10 p.m. Sept. 14, could break out this year. Starring  Will Arnett  and  Christina Applegate  as a married couple who just had a baby, it cleverly touches on all the hardships a new addition brings, along with the joy — and manages to do this without being so sappy you want to hang yourself. Credit creator and writer  Emily Spivey  ( Parks and Recreation ) for getting the tone just right, from jokes about when the couple find out they’re pregnant ("Stop saying, ‘There’s a baby in there’ like it’s a baby in a closet with a knife") to their combined astonishment and horror that they now have to care for it (Arnett and Applegate swearing about how cute the baby is works perfectly well, as does their exasperated exhaustion).
