But Gene is in despair as his fledgling band is in disarray. Golden boy Little Chris's halo has slipped, and his performance last week has cost him a place in the band. For the rest of the class, the pressure to make the band is building, and some can barely conceal their bitter rivalry. Gene finally announces the line-up, and reveals that the whole class will be going to California. It's a daunting and overwhelming challenge for the band as they prepare to face their public.
