Gossip Girl Recap Recap: The Backup Dan

This week, Blair's sham wedding to the prince of Monaco, her subsequent sprint to the airport in Vera Wang for a divorce Dominican Republic–style, and her refusal to let Chuck buy her from the Grimaldis had commenters abuzz with talk of implausibility. As usual, a few things have become Swarovski-crystal clear thanks to our commenters: Virtually no one likes Serena right now; Chuck really needs a hair change; and the writers may or may not have mailed in season five from a beach in the Dominican Republic themselves. Pluses were hard to come by this week (though Queen B remains a fave), but the hate rained down on Serena, the royal wedding reception music choices, the sudden lack of doors in UES apartments, Blair’s painful hair extensions, and Serena’s made-for-penguins gown. Forthwith, a return at last of the recap of the recap : //nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2012/02/gossip-girl-recap-recap-the-backup-dan.html

Top 5 OMG Moments From Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 14: “The Backup Dan”

Gossip Girl Recap: Gossip Girl Knows You Better Than Your Own Mother

This week, our Upper East Siders experimented with boundaries. Nate kicked Chola out of his apartment when he heard her lying to her mother. Dan smacked down Blair for treating him like a servant. And a righteously indignant Serena called out both Blair and Dan for their inconsiderate behavior. But Eleanor Waldorf topped them all, coming back after a sputtering response to Sophie with a fiery retort to Louis. "Your family cannot control mine," she sputters, getting all up in his smug  faceth . Of course, in the end, none of them held firm — especially Blair, who after her dramatic escape from her wedding meekly surrendered to the miserable Grimaldis. But these things take time, and one thing’s for sure: Somebody’s going to be purchasing "Freedom Baguettes" from now on. Below, our weekly reality index. //nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2012/02/gossip-girl-recap-season-5-episode-14.html

Gossip Girl Recap of Season 5, Episode 14: “The Backup Dan” — Dan Loves Blair Loves Chuck!

After last week's HUGE, EPIC royal wedding disaster, it was only natural that we'd have to spend some time dealing with the aftermath. Thing is, we kinda figured at the end of the hour, all would be (on its way to) well for our Queen B! (We mean Princess B!) As it turned out... that just wasn't the case. And the long-awaited, sure-to-be-wonderful-and-awesome debut of Dan (Penn Badgley) and Blair (Leighton Meester) as a maybe-couple (DAIR!)... Yeah, that didn't happen either. What did go down as... //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/75c9TV9GACM/gossip-girl-recap-of-season-5-episode-14-the-backup-dan--dan-loves-blair-loves-chuck

'Gossip Girl' Recap: Top 5 OMG Moments in 'The Backup Dan'

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 5, Episode 14 of The CW's "Gossip Girl," entitled "The Backup Dan." This week's " Gossip Girl " picked up right where the milestone 100th episode left off, with Blair turned Runaway Bride and the rest of the Manhattan apparently on the hunt for her. After the twists and turns of last week, "The Backup Dan" seemed choppy and strangely paced in comparison, lurching across New York as Blair and Dan tried to escape the evil Grimaldi clan and their Bond villain accents. Serena, Chuck and Georgina were hot on their heels, but since we ended up almost exactly where we started -- with Blair reluctantly departing for her honeymoon with a man she doesn't love -- it kind of felt like a wasted hour to me (not to mention one that offered up some deeply disturbing subtext for Blair's relationship with Louis -- but more on that later). 'Gossip Girl': A game of lost and found

When last we left off on "Gossip Girl," Blair (Leighton Meester) had just entered into a loveless marriage with Louis (Hugo Becker). This was quickly followed by a great escape with Dan (Penn Badgley), allowing her the space to figure out how to get out of this predicament. So what happens next...[Spoiler Alert]The runaway bride and Lonely Boy head off to the airport. Blair seems to be under the assumption that the Dominican Republic allows for divorce without the consent of both parties, as Elizabeth Taylor once did did it. But there are only two problems with this plan, 1) she doesn't have her passport, 2) Louis is looking for her.Much of the episode is a cat and mouse game around NYC - at least the fashionable boroughs - and everyone is involved. As much as Blair tries to escape, the tentacles of the royals and Gossip Girl are too much. She's ultimately caught at... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/02/gossip-girl-a-game-of-lost-and-found.html

'Gossip Girl' Recap: Dowry Does It

This week on Gossip Girl , Blair tries to escape her fate but Louie is hot on her heels like a lisping Terminator with less personality. Sensing a disturbance in the force, which is Blair Waldorf wearing a sweatshirt, the non-judging breakfast club reunite for one night only to fight crime, hit on cater waitresses and look stunning in formal attire. Once again, a spinoff I would much rather be watching than this episode of Gossip Girl. //www.buddytv.com/articles/gossip-girl/gossip-girl-recap-dowry-does-i-43831.aspx

Gossip Girl Review: Backup Dan the Man

With the dust nowhere near settled after last week's 100th episode event , this evening's Gossip Girl picked up right where the wedding left off with a somewhat lighter, equally confusing installment. "The Backup Dan" featured some highly entertaining scenes thanks to Dan, Blair and Georgina, but was uneven in many respects. Chiefly, the story we were so excited for not really materializing. Was anyone out there not loving Dan and Blair at the airport, on the run from her life? I'd watch an entire spinoff in which Dair travels the world, trying to stay one step ahead of Louis' henchmen. Okay, Monaco totally doesn't have henchmen, but you get my point (they do have dowries, apparently, which we'll get to momentarily after we finish discussing the viewing experience that is Dair). Gossip Girl Review: What Did You Think of Season 5, Episode 14: “The Backup Dan”?

Blair (Leighton Meester) sure made a difficult decision about her future, the consequences of which could hurt those she loves most. Serena (Blake Lively) took the blame for an incident with Gossip Girl in order to protect someone she loves, and Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) smelled the scent of scandal and decides to follow its trail! Was this a great followup to the wedding shocker, or was it an anticlimax? //feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/7jGOLc3a8YY/gossip-girl-review-what-did-you-think-of-season-5-episode-14-the-backup-dan
