'House of Lies' Season 4 finale gets the happy ending it deserves, but can Marty handle that?

Something very strange happened at the conclusion of the "House of Lies" Season 4 finale -- a happy ending. Things never tend to end well for Marty Kaan (Don Cheadle) when a season of the show comes to a close. In previous years his son has moved out, he's been betrayed by Clyde (Ben Schwartz) and even landed in jail. However, now he's father to a new baby girl with Jeannie (Kristen Bell) and his company seems to be on the right track after ridding itself of Denna (Mary McCormack) once and for all. In theory, he's getting everything he wants. The look on Marty's face in the closing seconds of the episode isn't a joyous one, though. He looks confused and afraid by what the future may bring. His family is changing, and it's coming at a difficult time.RELATED: Who needs Showtime? Watch 'Shameless,' 'House of Lies,' 'Episodes' premieres on YouTubeAfter all, while having a new... //

House of Lies Season 4 Episode 1 Review: At the End of the Day

Last season, Marty engaged in some illegal activity and ended up in federal prison after Jeannie went to the authorities. This was after he finally admitted his love for her. Roscoe and Jeremiah had new relationships, Doug was dealing with marital issues and Clyde was dealing with a life spiraling out of control. House of Lies Season 4 Episode 1 fills in some of the missing pieces of what happened during Marty's brief incarceration. We get only a few answers but I'm definitely looking forward to the rest being revealed over the course of the season.   Read More... //

'House of Lies' Season 4 premiere: Marty Kaan's out of jail but in big trouble

Maybe Marty Kaan would have been better off behind bars? With the beginning of Season 4 of "House of Lies," Marty's cut a plea deal to get out of the slammer only to find his business and personal life in turmoil.Firstly, Kaan and Associates is floundering and headed towards bankruptcy thanks to the charges against Marty. Though Jeannie was left in charge -- and responsible for Marty's incarceration -- things are falling apart. The staff's been cut and clients are fleeing. What's worse, Marty doesn't think he can work with Jeannie anymore thanks to her (on purpose) accidental betrayal.Oh yeah, she's also pregnant. Jeannie claims the dad is someone she went to college with that has come back into her life. Marty still wants her gone from the company, which isn't very nice to do to a pregnant woman.Meanwhile, Roscoe is making things for Marty nearly impossible at home. He's entered a very special portion... //

House of Lies Season 3 Review “Joshua”

The best season finales successfully accomplish two things. The first is pulling together the most important plot threads and story beats from the season’s previous episodes in a way that gives them a greater sense of relevance because of their end result. The second, and most important, is leaving you in a place where your engagement with the show, its characters, and its story has never been stronger. When done right this creates in you an almost desperate feeling where you feel cut off from a series at the point where you feel it most, causing you to immediately do a Google search to see when the show will return because you need to see the next episode NOW. “Joshua” accomplished these things and more in a subtly ambitious way that once again showed how intimately  House of Lies  understands itself. It was an episode in which the earlier actions of characters caught up with them to drive the story forward into new territory with personal consequences for all. Read More... //

House of Lies Season 3 Review “Together”

House of Lies  wisely centered this week’s episode on its core cast, bringing them “Together” to focus on the relationships they share with each other and those they’re closest to. This resulted in a leaner, more concentrated entry that capitalized on the time this season has spent building and developing those relationships in large and meaningful ways. None of course were more meaningful than Marty and Jeannie finally consummating their long simmering flirtation. This was a hook up three years in the making, and I was happy to see the show handle it with such delicate care and attention. Read More... //
