'Justified' Season 5, episode 7: A 'Raw Deal' for pretty much everyone involved

The title of Tuesday's (Feb. 25) episode of "Justified" is "Raw Deal," and it's an apt description for every storyline covered in the hour.Let's examine just how raw things were for everyone.RaylanArt has gone from punching Raylan in the face in the previous episode to freezing him out now, putting Raylan on crummy tasks like handling walk-in cases and delivering his orders through Rachel rather than directly. A walk-in leads Raylan to a case involving a hacker who's tangentially connected to Charles Monroe, and it's a nicely contained, very Elmore Leonard-ish little story. The bigger story, though, comes when Raylan finally has a conversation with Art about the freeze-out. Art continues to brush him off, to the point where Raylan tells him "I don't need this s***" and asks for a transfer. He says he's taking some vacation time to go to Florida and see his child.Allison and WendyWendy Crowe decides to make life difficult... //

'Justified's' Nick Searcy: 'I found out some things about Raylan that I'd rather not have known'

During filming of some tense scenes on the set of his Tuesday-night FX drama"Justified," Nick Searcy drops into a director's chair with his lunch and takes a few questions from Zap2it.Zap2it: Today on set, about midway through the season, your character, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Art Mullen, is having a dispute with his most troublesome subordinate, Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). Is this a serious spat? Nick Searcy: I don't want to give away too much, but I found out some things about Raylan that I'd rather not have known. Really, I've got to be vague about it. This is maybe the biggest spat we've had. We've had some other things, but this one has a real permanent feel about it.Zap2it: Does this represent a rift in the Art/Raylan father/son relationship?Nick Searcy: That would be a good way to put it.RELATED: 'Justified' Season 5 photosZap2it: What's it like to do the show this year without the... //

'Justified': Things are really starting to get interesting in 'Kill the Messenger'

Until this episode of "Justified," Season 5's supposed primary bad guys seemed more like minor irritants than true, fearsome opponents for Raylan and the law in Harlan. And Boyd, for all his skill at the criminal game, was losing as much as he was winning. The Crowes and Boyd came together -- albeit in a tense, marriage-of-convenience kind of way -- in Tuesday's (Feb. 11) show, "Kill the Messenger," and things may be looking up for both of them. It's still hard to get a read on just what Daryl's agenda is beyond "family," and it could all come crashing down the next time his psychotic brother Danny decides he's been slighted. But for the first time this season, the criminal side of the "Justified" equation feels like it's jelled and like a formidable adversary for Raylan. The new arrangement -- let's call it Crowder & Crowe -- may not be Raylan's biggest problem. Raylan's half-admission to... //
