'Justified' creator: Ending after Season 6 feels like the right time

FX confirmed Tuesday (Jan. 14) that "Justified" will end after its sixth season in 2015 -- though not because of any decision from the top."I would have liked to have more 'Justified.' It's one of my favorite shows," FX Networks CEO John Landgraf says at the TCA winter press tour. "I just really love it personally and have a long-standing admiration of all things Elmore Leonard."The decision, Landgraf says, came from "Justified" creator Graham Yost and star/producer Timothy Olyphant. "They felt the arc of the show and what they had to say would be best served by six years, six seasons, instead of seven. So regretfully I accepted their decision," Landgraf says.Yost tells Zap2it that while some business considerations went into the decision -- "they initially only make a deal with someone like Tim for six years" -- it had more to do with what's on screen."It feels like the Kentucky story of Raylan Givens... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/justified-creator-ending-after-season-6-feels-like-the-right-time.html

'Justified': Season 5 feels familiar in the best possible way

Last year, "Justified" abandoned its usual pattern of giving its good guys a primary adversary for the season in favor of a mystery story that delved deeply into its characters' pasts, digging up lots of semi-buried issues along the way.The new season, which premieres at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday (Jan. 7) on FX, returns to the show's more familiar structure. But the character beats that played out last season -- and in previous seasons, for that matter -- linger. The result is that the Harlan, Ky., and environs of "Justified" feels like a very familiar, lived-in place -- in the best possible sense."Justified" is still very capable of surprises, whether they're small (the actors playing two Canadian drug distributors in the season premiere) or large: A rather important development involving Boyd (Walton Goggins) takes place in the final minutes of Tuesday's episode. Those jolts, though, nearly always flow from things the show has previously established... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/justified-season-5-feels-familiar-in-the-best-possible-way.html

'Justified' Season 5 premiere: 'A Murder of Crowes' sets sights on Harlan

In discussing the Season 5 premiere of "Justified" before it aired Tuesday night (Jan. 7), I used the words "lived-in" and "familiar" to describe it. Depending on how you read them, those might not be the most flattering terms to describe a TV show in its fifth year.Parts of "Justified" have always felt familiar, built as it is on the foundation of westerns and cop shows. What really stands out in the premiere, though, is how the show has succeeded in creating a world where Raylan Givens, Boyd Crowder and most everyone else we spend time with is surrounded by their past. Old associations, acquaintances and grudges are next to impossible to shake. There's now an almost physical feeling of the past hanging over them. It's what's driving Boyd in his new heroin business with Wynn Duffy -- he needs fast money to help get Ava out of prison, only to see his old-boys-network nemesis Lee... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/justified-season-5-premiere-a-murder-of-crowes-sets-sights-on-harlan.html

'Justified' Season 5 pics: Raylan in the Everglades, plus a first look at the Crowes

FX has released the first photos from the Season 5 premiere of "Justified," which takes Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens back to his former home in Florida. The premiere is titled "A Murder of Crowes" and introduces Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) to his primary nemesis this season: the Crowe family, headed by Darryl Crowe Jr. (Michael Rapaport) and his sister Wendy (Alicia Witt). Darryl had his hands in a number of criminal enterprises, while Wendy, who works as a paralegal, puts a legitimate sheen on the family's dealings.Darryl and Wendy are cousins of the hapless Dewey Crowe (Damon Herriman), and upon hearing that Dewey has come into some money, they set their sights on Harlan.Raylan also encounters Crowe adviser Jean Baptiste (Edi Gathegi, "House") on his trip to the Everglades. Baptiste is a gator farmer "with an intimate knowledge of body disposal," per FX's description, and also acts as a voice of reason for the Crowes. The Season... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/justified-season-5-pics-raylan-in-the-everglades-plus-a-first-look-at-the-crowes.html

‘Justified’ Season 5 Teaser: The Crowes Are Coming

There’s a new crime family coming to Harlan to cause Raylan a whole mess of trouble in  Justified season five, and the new teaser doesn’t even have to mention them by name. Symbolized by a murder of crows picking away at an unseen object (until the killer ending), we get our first idea of what things will be like when the Crowe family descends on Raylan’s turf. It appears the rest of the family won’t be as dense as Dewey. In fact, the family patriarch set to be played by Michael Rapaport ( Prison Break ) is known to be charismatic and dangerous. Let’s hope that roadkill imagery is just an exaggeration, otherwise Raylan might finally be in over his head.
