ABC's new crime drama "Killer Women" debuted Tuesday (Jan. 7), featuring "Battlestar Galactica" alum Tricia Helfer as Molly Parker, one of the only female members the Texas Rangers, the Austin-based law enforcement body. Showrunner Hannah Shakespeare tells Zap2it that what she hopes to do in the series is take a traditional procedural and stylize it with the feel of a modern western. "I read tons of true crime, so that's what excited me when I read 'Killer Women,'" says Shakespeare. "The second element is I'm really drawn to westerns. Molly Parker is named after the unsinkable Molly Brown and Leroy Parker, who is Butch Cassidy. I wanted to combine the two. I wanted to do a modern western that would also appeal to my interests in true crime, and why women kill and the psychology of it. ..."It's also cool with a woman, it's like I'm going to take the tough boys club and do... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/killer-women-premiere-puts-a-strong-female-lead-into-a-modern-male-western.html

'Killer Women's' Tricia Helfer: Molly Parker is 'tough, but she can also be vulnerable'

ABC's latest crime drama, "Killer Women," stars Tricia Helfer as Molly Parker, one of the only female members of the law enforcement body known as the Texas Rangers. Not only does the show focus on a female lead, but the crimes are also about female killers (hence the title), which is a big part of what drew Helfer to the role."I loved Molly from the moment I read the script," Helfer tells Zap2it. "I thought the script was fun. I thought it was an interesting take on the female killer angle, but it also had the strong female lead."When I was reading the script, I kept thinking how fun it'd be to play. [Molly is] smart, she's bad-a**, she's tough, but she also has a quirky side and she's also got a vulnerable side. More of a multi-faceted personality that you sometimes don't get with tough-cop female roles."Part of Molly's multi-faceted personality is that while... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/killer-womens-tricia-helfer-molly-parker-is-tough-but-she-can-also-be-vulnerable.html
