LIP SERVICE Episode 6 (Finale) Review

This week’s LIP SERVICE was the last one in the series and if you’d have told me 5 episodes ago that I’d be sad to see it end I would have laughed merrily out loud. But I kind of am. What started as, quite frankly, a ridiculous cliché riddled piece of trash has developed into an engaging hour or so of TV. Gone is the need to shoe-horn in the weekly ‘shock moment’ that added nothing to the plot but ensured a few more column inches in the morning papers. The viewing figures have been high enough, a second series will probably follow, no need for anymore danger shaving in the bathtub. So we kick off the last Lip Service wondering what will become of the girls? Is Frankie ever gonna find out who she really is (it’s cold out there, only so much aimless wandering one girl can do) and is it to be SamKat of FranCatie?? I don’t know about you but I couldn’t wait for the Uncle/Dad storyline to be revealed because to be honest it was starting to irritate me. More photo albums and family trees than an episode of Who Do You Think You Are and when the Uncle/Whatever started talking in riddles I wanted it over with. Anything short of him peeling off his face to reveal it was a mask and he is in fact Tom Cruise ala Mission Impossible was a disappointment after the mother of all build ups. LIP SERVICE Episode 5 Review

In previous episodes I got the sense that the headline grabbing, shock for shocking’s sake moments (Frankie’s corpse ménage a trois) were more about creating buzz than anything. It was all a bit clichéd and cringe worthy. This week however something seems to click. They become believable as a group of friends bouncing along in their lives – they have sex, fall in love and make mistakes, they just so happen to be gay. It’s the morning after the night before. Frankie is still in bed from her romp with Jay while across Glasgow Sam in a moment where her judgement was probably, let’s say…clouded, declares her love for Kat for the first time – all that before breakfast! Lip Service this week revolves around Tess’ birthday as her life hits a crisis point. Career and love life are going nowhere so in an attempt to cheer her up/get in her knickers Ed organises a secret 30th fancy dress birthday bash at the flat. To Read More Click Here.

LIP SERVICE Episode 4 Review

As this six part series stumbles into its fourth week I think it’s safe to say this is what is referred to as a filler episode. Lip Service has been labeled many things, shocking, ground-breaking, controversial, this week I thought it swung from tedious to ridiculous and back again. We kick off with Tess moving out of Kat’s spacious loft apartment to move in with Frankie whose new squeeze has sorted them out somewhere to rent. That somewhere appears to be Heathrow’s Terminal 5, a colossal flat as glamorous as it is unrealistic. One of the least believable things in Lip Service (apart from the price range of real estate freelance photographers and out of work actresses seem to be able to stretch to) is the tortured connection that apparently exists between Kat and Frankie.
