David and Paul Shannon are hoping to be reunited with their father, a miner who disappeared from their lives when he left the family home in Liverpool for South Africa, where he had worked previously. Julia Evans was raised by her dad in a strict Christian community in south Wales and grew up believing she had been rejected by her mother.
