Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #12 Anime Review

With the lead-up that has been working on when it comes to the fight at hand, everything went fairly big in the previous episode as the government is in the throes of being attacked with an attempted overthrow. With the bit of character history that has come through when it comes to a couple of the characters pasts, it’s put them on the defensive at the moment to try and hold the line, but specifically with Yamato taking a fairly strong commanding position. Of course, most of it breaks down to individual fights themselves so we get a lot of the main characters pairing off against the more recently introduced characters for some mild fanservice and decent hand to hand style combat. Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #11 Anime Review

With the last few episodes focused on the whole Momoyo and Takae fight that dominated things heavily, this episode shifts away from that which is pretty welcome. While some shows can handle the inclusion of darker elements after doing a lot of silly fanservice oriented comedy, some just feel far too forced. By going back to the basics here, putting Yamato back at home and having the numerous girls now realize that they’re all in competition with each other over him, and with Yamato having made nary a hint about where his interests lie, that means it’s time for them all to ramp things up and just get silly in trying to win him over. Or more specifically, outperform the others. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #10 Anime Review

While I’ve had a very rocky relationship with the series, the larger plot introduction in the last few episodes has left me very disinterested in things as it deals with the continued back and forth fight between Momoyo and Takae. Even the sliver of supposedly interesting things when it comes to Yamato’s background aren’t what’s really fun about the show since it’s done its best to be a big fanservice show since the beginning. I never felt the need to care or like the characters from the second episode on and just enjoyed it for what it wanted to show, visually and with the fanservice. So spending lots of time on fights isn’t bad, but it’s nothing like the opening episode fight which was a hell of a lot of fun. Getting away from either that or the silly fanservice just leaves me feeling bland about the whole thing, no matter how technically well done it may be. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #09 Anime Review

After the problems that took down Yamato in the previous episode, opening with a tearful and emotional prologue as his friends yell and plead with his comatose body to stay in the game works well. It hits the right notes, from the over the top crying to the demands by others that he get his rear back in gear. Of course, being what this series is, they have to go a step further and let him die for a few seconds at least, according to the equipment, but then comes back to life with a visibly large erection under the sheets showing just how alive he is. You can practically see the drool on his chin, which is so utterly Yamato at this point. You might as well play it up, I guess. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #08 Anime Review

While a lot of the previous episode focused on Momoyo, it didn’t focus on her in an interesting or fun way and sort of left me feeling rather bland about her. When it went to make things into a big fight at the end with the introduction of Takae, it didn’t exactly excite all that much either. While I like what the show can do with its fight scenes, it’s more towards the larger Kawakami battles that I enjoy as we saw in the first episode or the more comical stuff from the mushroom festival. The action for it at the start here is fun and well done with its visual presentation, but the core connection with the characters isn’t even paper thin at this point so that makes it hard to really rally behind. Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #07 Anime Review

With a decent sized cast as we do have for the series, it’s somewhat surprising that they haven’t spent more time focusing on the various characters more by giving them their own episodes. That gets dealt with a bit this time around though as Momoyo is the center of attention, which is what she prefers. Though she’s not the type that wants everyone to pay attention to her, she is the type that wants challengers and challenges in her life. She’s come so far in defeating opponents that there’s almost nobody left to go against and even the random arrivals that would come into town seeking her out are no longer there. It’s certainly a frustrating thing for her to be like this and to feel like she has nothing to do. Well, there’s always Yamato to bother. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #06 Anime Review

As much as I hate to admit it, the prologue material here again is just too much fun. Watching as Yamato sets up his private time with a dirty VHS tape in which there are many things done in order to ensure it’s never discovered is just far too cute. It’s a lot of effort to feel good, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. But when he discovers that Miyako has not only found the tape but set it up for a live show of herself in an attempt to bed him, you just have to laugh, especially as the end results go pretty far in an amusing direction. But at the same time, you have to wonder why Yamato just doesn’t go for it and enjoy it all, even if he ends up tied with her for awhile. Because it seems like he’s going to be stuck with her one way or another regardless. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #05 Anime Review

After a surprisingly fun if trashy episode the last time around, Majikoi Oh! ends up being something of a drag this time around as it loses a lot of the fun it has, especially for the first hlf. The episode actually opens well as we see Yamato all excited to check out his new skin magazine that’s all about girls in bloomers, but when he discovers that all the faces in it have been taped over with pictures of Miyako’s face, he freaks out. And of course, Miyako has gotten to his entire stash of smutty magazines and done just that. It’s a bad time for the young man to be sure, especially as he seems quite decided uninterested in Miyako through and through. It’s cute how she’s so totally psycho attached to him, but there isn’t a sliver of real interest emanating from him as some shows are wont to do. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #04 Anime Review

While Majikoi Oh! started off with a big, great action sequence that was light on characters since it just wanted to introduce us to them, it faltered with the second episode by doing absolutely nothing related to the first and going to standard harem mode with so many girls after one guy in different forms. It also turned into a big fanservice oriented show, which I admittedly enjoy, but it uses a whole lot of cute and colorful things in order to cover up the fanservice. Which is better than whiting things out entirely or using copious amounts of fog. And it adds a level of comedy to the fanservice that wouldn’t exist without it. Yet I will admit that I want to see the show without the cute censoring it applies since I’m curious as to how it would feel without it. READ MORE...

Majikoi Oh! Samurai Girls Episode #03 Anime Review

There’s something to be said for being overt in an amusing way, which is what the beginning of this episode is as Miyako has gotten someone to help her create a super erotic unapproved game featuring her, artwork and scenario by her, that has Yamato as the lead deflowering her in some forty-eight different ways with all sorts of tricks to it. Having her sit beside him as he plays it and says how she wants to be viewed is even more comical but in a bad way because it so completely defines Miyako that it’s hard to imagine that they change perceptions of her other than a willing help-me type that just wants to be cuddled and saved by her hero.
