Bear Catches an Eel With Ancient Maori Fishing Technique on 'Man vs. Wild' (VIDEO)

'Man vs Wild' (Fridays, 9PM on Discovery) is the type of show on which it's not surprising to hear a phrase like, "and that rotting carcass I found earlier will come in handy." Bear Grylls used the stink of a rotting rabbit carcass as bait to catch something that was actually edible. Grylls used the rabbit and flax to fashion a sort of fishing pole to catch an eel. Why flax? "When the eel bites down on those," he said, pointing to a partially shredded bit of the flax, "because their teeth face backwards, they get their teeth stuck in these strands." He then rubbed the flax in the rabbit guts to lure the eel. //

Bear Grylls Conquers the Utah Wilderness on 'Man vs. Wild' (VIDEO)

Getting dropped off in the middle of Utah might not sound too dangerous ... just find a highway and hitchhike your way back to Salt Lake City, right? Not so fast. As Bear Grylls found out on 'Man vs. Wild' (Fridays, 9PM on Discovery), Utah's rough outdoor terrain can be a unforgiving and dangerous. Crossing rapids is dangerous business, no matter where the water is. Grylls had to apply his survival skills get by, tying a rope to a tree before entering the water. "I'm holding myself out of the main stream for as long as possible," he said in the voice-over. "Because when the full force of the water catches me, I'm gone." //

Top Moments: Jake Gyllenhaal Gets Naked and The Bachelorette Bores

Our top moments of the week: 13. No "I" in "Team" Award:  On  Ice Loves Coco , Coco is pumped to show her hubby her new Licious clothing line at the factory... until  Ice-T  points out something her whole crew had apparently missed: All the shirts are printed with the (non)-word "licous" — or, phonetically, "lick-us." Don't get too upset, Coco. Beyonce  can't spell it either . 12. Best Accidental Foreshadowing:  Don't get us wrong, we love  Jesse Tyler Ferguson  on Modern Family , but maybe in his next lifetime he should come back as a fortune teller! Less than 12 hours after praising  So You Think You Can Dance  host  Cat Deeley  on-air and declaring that she deserves an Emmy nomination, the Brit receives one — her first! — for Best Reality Show Host.   11. Best Entrance into the History Books:   Derek Jeter 's arrival at 3,000 hits was a little delayed, thanks to a pesky calf injury, but when the New York Yankees shortstop reached the big number on Saturday, he did it in a very big way. Not only was it one of five hits in one game, but his 3,000th was a home run. As YES commentator Michael Kay screamed during the game: "History with an exclamation point!" 10. Oddest First Impression:  It's unclear to us exactly why Joe Gorga accepts the dare to strut around in his wife's tight sparkly black Spandex bodysuit during a meeting among the families on The Real Housewives of New Jersey .  We know things have been tense between his sister,  Teresa , and wife,  Melissa , but do we really need to resort to cross-dressing to bring about detente? Bear Grylls and Jake Gyllenhaal Strip Down in Freezing Temperatures on 'Man vs. Wild' (VIDEO)

You first heard about it a few weeks ago, but now you finally get to see Jake Gyllenhaal take his shirt off on 'Man vs. Wild' (Mon., 9PM ET on Discovery). Well, there was more to it than that. He and Bear Grylls both shed their shirts in sub-freezing temperatures to keep them as dry as possible while they crossed a river. It's a far cry from a shirtless Gyllenhaal in the deserts of 'Prince of Persia.' "I joined up for this, right?" Gyllenhaal lamented as he stripped. They made the crossing fairly quickly, making us cold just from watching them in the freezing water with the cameraman trying to keep the lens free of snow and ice. //

Bear Grylls talks manning up with Jake Gyllenhaal for 'Men vs. Wild'

Bear Grylls, star of "Man vs. Wild," has done plenty of challenging things during the nearly five-year run of the worst-case-scenario survival show. He ate a sheep's eyeball. Drank his own urine. He even gave himself an enema in the middle of an ocean. During the show's sixth season -- new episodes begin airing on Discovery on Monday night -- the 37-year-old will not only continue to push himself, but one very pretty, high-profile actor: Jake Gyllenhaal. In an installment titled " Men  vs. Wild," Grylls takes Gyllenhaal to the Icelandic tundra. Unlike when he took Will Ferrell to the Arctic Circle, the weather is uncooperative: he and the "Love and Other Drugs" star brave 90 mph winds and individually pull themselves across a single rope suspended hundreds of feet over a deep ravine. (You can catch a glimpse of that scary stunt below.) Read More... //,0,5629172.storylink

8 Celebs We'd Love to See on 'Man vs. Wild'

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is going on the adventure of a lifetime tonight: He'll be trekking through the wilds of Iceland for two days with Bear Grylls on a very special episode of 'Man vs. Wild.' 'Men vs. Wild with Jake Gyllenhaal' (Mon., July 11, 9PM ET on Discovery) finds the 'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Love and Other Drugs' star teaming with Grylls for a snowy, icy, carcass-filled trip. Following in the footsteps of funnyman Will Ferrell, who ventured to Northern Sweden with the show a couple years back, Gyllenhaal will show off his tough-guy skills, without the help of any stuntmen or body doubles like in the movies. We can't wait to see these two get rugged together, but it got us thinking -- who should be next? Last year, Gryllls told us he wanted Cameron Diaz to tag along, and it looks like that's happening. (Although Ben Stiller was set to go, too -- whatever happened with that?) Here, eight more celebrities we'd love to see roughing it on 'Man vs. Wild.' //
