Modern Family Recap: We Bought a House

This Modern Family hit on some serious family topics hidden in the guise of a mostly jokey episode. Haley’s cold-open comment about a job making you feel actually worth something — "no offense, mom" — isn’t said meanly, or lingered upon, but the pathos is there. Sure enough, midway through the half-hour, we learn that housewife, cause-joiner, and project-spearheader Claire has unsuccessfully applied to five jobs in the past few weeks. She’s spiraling, feeling like a financial non-contributor to her three-child, single-income family. "I went to college, you know? And I just want to be able to contribute to my kids’ education and I want to be able to buy my husband a present with my own money." Modern Family Season 4 Review “Diamond in the Rough”

Before my usual digression into popular sitcom tropes and joke setup, allow me a slightly personal aside related to tonight’s episode. As an avid sports fan (and high school coach), I have a decent understanding of the rules, theories, and strategies of most sports. Working collaboratively with writers and producers, I could establish sports sequences that weren’t a complete embarrassment. In other words, I could have possibly rescued the baseball story line from tonight’s Modern Family . I know most people that watch the show don’t care about the authenticity of sports scenes on sitcoms, so I won’t bore you with the details. Just know that anything surrounding the baseball storyline was pretty much a travesty. Read More... //www.tvequals.com/2012/12/12/modern-family-season-4-review-diamond-in-the-rough/

Modern Family Review: Field of Dreams

This week's Modern Family  actually reminded me a bit of the episode last season called " Punkin Chunkin ." It was all about the dreamers vs the realists.  " Diamond In The Rough " presented the same kind of look at the relationships between the characters in the Dunphy-Pritchitt families. Except this time instead of dreamers and realists it was gas pedals and brakes. It also switched up the roles a little. Read More... //www.tvfanatic.com/2012/12/modern-family-review-field-of-dreams/
