Mortal Kombat: Legacy - 'Episode 5" Review

Warning: Full Spoilers for the episode ahead.   Last week Warner Brothers and YouTube channel, Machinima, gave fans their fourth helping of   Mortal Kombat: Legacy , a 9-part web series designed to relaunch the Kombat universe while promoting the recently released video game, simply titled   Mortal Kombat . Director Kevin Tancharoen Video Interview MORTAL KOMBAT: LEGACY

Just before director Kevin Tancharoen’s  Mortal Kombat: Legacy   nine-part web series premiered, I got to sit down with him to talk about how the project came together.  At the time, I hadn’t seen any of the episodes, so my questions were more general than specific.  However, we still discussed the level of violence in the shorts, what rules and regulations did he have to deal with, what Easter Eggs should fans look out for, do the episodes all tie together (they do), and if he’s able to make a  Mortal Kombat  feature film…what would the rating be.  Hit the jump to watch. Can the ‘Mortal Kombat’ Web Series Sustain its Audience?

One of the tough things about online video is building an audience. It’s hard to get viewers with a billion places to click on a million different web sites to choose to occupy their time with your piece of content over the myriad other options available literally at their fingertips. And once you have that audience, the hard work isn’t over. One of the other tough things about online video is maintaining an audience. That’s hard work, too. Mortal Kombat: Legacy is the new hotness in the web series world. And rightly so. The program combines Kevin Tancharoen’s superb directing skills with origin stories of kick ass mythological characters from your adolescence, with which you may or may not have spent far too much time perfecting finishing moves. Last week I got to sit down with Boon to talk about all things  Mortal Kombat .  We covered making the new game, the fatalities and violence in the series, his thoughts on director Kevin Tancharoen’s short film  Mortal Kombat: Rebirth  and the new web series  Mortal Kombat: Legacy , and does he think we’ll ever get a cool  Mortal Kombat  movie.  Hit the jump to watch.
