Prince Charming Saves Baby Emma From the Curse on 'Once Upon a Time' (VIDEO)

The Alphabet fired the first volley in the great 2011 war of the fairy tales with the premiere of 'Once Upon a Time' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC). The Eye returns fire with 'Grimm' this Friday, though at first glance the two series look to be very different. Framed much like a fairy tale itself, 'Time' sees the fairy tale characters trapped in Storybrook, Maine. There time stands still thanks to a curse from the Evil Queen ( Lana Parrilla ), who herself fell victim to the curse. That appears to be part of her plan, though. That said, it's unclear if the "human" Queen, who is the mayor of Storybrook, knows the truth or not. //www.aoltv.com/2011/10/24/prince-charming-save-baby-emma-curse-once-upon-a-time-video/

Once Upon a Time Photos & Promo: Learn the Evil Queen's History in Episode 2

Once Upon a Time will shine a spotlight on certain characters each week.  In the October 30 episode, the Evil Queen/Regina will be the focus of the show. As we learned in the pilot episode, the Evil Queen cursed the fairytale world so that all of the characters are now trapped in Storybrooke, Maine, with no memories of who they really are.  In the October 30 episode, we will learn how and why the Evil Queen unleashed the curse on the fairytale world.  Not only is Rumplestiltskin part of the plot, but we'll also be introduced to two new characters.  One is the Magic Mirror, played by Giancarlo Esposito, who also appears in Storybrooke as a character named Sidney.  True Blood's Kristin Bauer will also be appearing as the evil witch Maleficent. Once Upon a Time Spoilers: What Other Fairytale Characters Will We Meet?

The pilot episode of Once Upon a Time , which premiered tonight on ABC, introduced us to a plethora of fairytale characters. Among them were Snow White, Prince Charming, the Evil Queen, Jiminy Cricket, Rumplestiltskin, Geppetto and Pinnhochio. Who else will you be seeing in upcoming episodes? We got the scoop during a recent visit to the Vancouver set of Once Upon a Time . The possibility for which fairytale characters to introduce is endless, especially since most of these stories are part of the public domain and ABC is owned by Disney. But don’t expect to just see the Disney versions of these characters. Executive Producer Steven Pearlman said that they’ve taken some liberties with the fairytale characters and their stories. While the basic stories haven’t changed, the writers of the show have filled in some of the blanks in the stories: "In an episode a little bit later, we tell the story of how the Queen came to get the red apple that she’s going to kill Snow White with.  [The story was] totally fabricated by the writers of the show." Pearlman also told us that we’ll be seeing another princess very soon: Cinderella. The writers have decided that Cinderella and Snow White will be good friends. And why not? As contemporaries in fairytale literature, there’s no reason these girls wouldn’t know one another: "It’s kind of fun to see how it comes about and what that relationship is like.  It plays in a way that…. for viewers who know the classic fairytales, it’s very respectful and kind of a modern day twist on it.  For people who don’t know the classic fairytales, it kind of plays on that too.  It’s like ‘well, of course Cinderella and Snow White would be friends. Why wouldn’t they be?’.  I think it works on both levels." Lana Parrilla, who plays the Evil Queen, also told us that Rumplestiltskin will be involved in the Cinderella story. In addition to the princess brigade, we’ll be seeing Hansel and Gretel in an upcoming episode. And make sure to pay attention to little clues along the way. Pearlman warned us that "In some cases we’re trying to plant a seed in an episode or introduce a character in an episode who you might not even know who they are or the significance they have an a couple of episodes later." We know, for example, that Ruby (played by Meghan Ory), who is Granny’s granddaughter and lives at the inn Emma visited in the pilot, is also Red Riding Hood. We only saw her very briefly in the pilot episode while Charming and the others were trying to figure out a way to save their world.  We didn't hear her speak, but I suspect she'll definitely be popping up again in the future. Episode 2, airing on October 30, introduces us to Maleficent, played by True Blood’s Kristin Bauer, who we will see interacting with the Evil Queen. We’ll also get our first glimpse at the Magic Mirror in this episode, played by Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito. Raphael Sbarge, who plays Archie/Jiminy Cricket, also told us that Brad Dourif will be appearing in an upcoming episode. Unfortunately, he couldn’t tell us who he will be playing, but he’ll be appearing in the episode focused on Rumplestiltskin. Finally, episode 6 will feature King Midas. In that episode, which will show us Prince Charming’s backstory, we’ll also see Alan Dale playing Charming’s father, King George, who goes to Midas for help with his ailing kingdom. Don't miss an all new episode of Once Upon a Time on Sunday, October 30 on ABC. //feedproxy.google.com/~r/tvovermind/tvnews/~3/gkEpM6w4FTk/100217

'Once Upon a Time' EPs: No damsels in distress - 'Snow White wields a sword'

"Once Upon a Time" is the newest drama from ABC, brought to life by "Lost" executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis. They tell Zap2it that working on "Lost" is what helped them formulate the basis for their new show."The idea came about eight or nine years ago, Eddy and I were coming off working on 'Felicity' and we were talking about why we even like to tell stories," says Horowitz. "This led to a discussion about fairytales and these stories that inspired us as kids and made us want to be writers in the first place.""How hard would it be to be the Evil Queen?" Kitsis continues. "You're literally surrounded by all these people who get a happy ending. That was the kind of show we wanted to write, but we didn't know how to tell it and I think our time on 'Lost' really focused us and helped us realize how to do... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/once-upon-a-time-eps-no-damsels-in-distress---snow-white-wields-a-sword.html

'Once Upon a Time's' Josh Dallas: 'Being Prince Charming feels like a lot of pressure'

"Once Upon a Time" is the new ABC drama based on Grimm's fairytales (among other fanciful stories), where the characters from fairytale land are trapped in Storybrooke, Maine. Josh Dallas stars as Prince Charming and he says there could be a lot of pressure that goes along with that role."Being Prince Charming feels like a lot of pressure," Dallas laughs. "But it's not something you can think about. You can't think about that as an actor - 'Oh, I'm playing Prince Charming.' You're playing a man. You're playing a guy who's got problems, hopes, dreams.""It will be full of magic, it will be full of wonder, it will be full of drama," Dallas says of the show. "It will be full of everything that goes into great storytelling and great stories. Epic stories. 'Once Upon a Time' will have that.""Once Upon a Time" premieres Sunday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/once-upon-a-times-josh-dallas-being-prince-charming-feels-like-a-lot-of-pressure.html

Once Upon a Time: Pilot Preview and Character Guide

I watched a lot of pilots in the past few months and I am going to be honest here. Before I started it, I never would have thought that Once Upon a Time would turn out to be my absolute favorite pilot of the season. When I first heard about it and read the synopsis, I remember I thought: "a fairytale show? Really? That’s so not going to work." Boy, was I wrong. Once Upon a Time , as the title suggests, is a show about fairytale characters, but with a twist. All those fairytale characters have been cursed by the Evil Queen and doomed to live forever in the worst place possible: the real world. I was skeptical too, don’t worry. But it was written and produced by LOST’s Adam Horowits and Edward Kitsis and, as a true LOST fan, I had to give it a chance. So I did. And it was love at first sight. Because Once Upon a Time is not your average fairytale story. Here is what it’s all about: Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is a 28-year-old bail bondsperson who's been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby. One night, however, everything changes for her. A young boy named Henry appears on her doorstep, claiming to be the baby she left for adoption ten years before. He is in desperate need of Emma's help and tells her he believes that Emma actually comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming's missing daughter. According to his book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen's curse, which trapped the characters of fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Of course she thinks this is just the kid’s overactive imagination, so she humors him by driving him back home to Storybrooke. Once there, she finds herself more and more drawn to him and is concerned about him. His foster mother turns out to be the mayor of Storybrooke and, as Henry claims, the Evil Queen. He also says that all the fairytale characters live there, but they have forgotten who they are. Without giving too much away, the pilot of this amazing new show is very exciting and it kind of follows a LOST-style narrative, alternating between flashbacks and present time. When the credits rolled up on my screen I was already desperate for more. The cast consists of Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold, Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen/Regina, Jared Gilmore as Henry Mills, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/John Doe and Raphael Sbarge as Jiminy Cricket/Archie Hopper. It can be a little confusing at first, trying to figure out who is who, but you can take a look at our handy character guide, starting on page 2. Got interested? Good, you are not going to regret it. Go check out the sneak peeks for the pilot and take a look at the video below. Next: Find out who is who in our character guide //feedproxy.google.com/~r/tvovermind/tvnews/~3/6LBcjJsqH0w/100142

'Once Upon a Time's' Emma Swan: 'Fairytale characters in grown-up situations'

"Once Upon a Time" is the new ABC drama based on Grimm's fairytales (among other fanciful stories), where the characters from fairytale land are trapped in Storybrooke, Maine. Jennifer Morrison is Emma Swan, the real-world heroine brought to Storybrooke by Henry, the son she gave up for adoption."I play Emma Swan. Emma is sort of dragged to Storybrooke, Maine," says Morrison. "The town itself has so many mysteries and so many things to unlock. And now you have this woman living in the town that has so many deep, dark secrets.""People think fairytales are for kids. But this is fairytale characters in grown-up situations," she continues."Once Upon a Time" premieres Sunday night, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/once-upon-a-times-emma-swan-fairytale-characters-in-grown-up-situations.html

'Once Upon a Time's' Lana Parrilla: 'Watch it [or] I'm gonna cast a spell on you'

"Once Upon a Time" is the new ABC drama based on Grimm's fairytales (among other fanciful stories), where the characters from fairytale land are trapped in Storybrooke, Maine. Lana Parrilla is the Evil Queen, who in Storybrooke is the mayor. She is the one who cast the curse to send them all to our world and is the only one (so far) who knows their true natures."'Once Upon a Time' is about these two parallel worlds - one is the fairytale world and one is a contemporary world," says Parrilla. "In the fairy tale world, the Evil Queen casts a spell and sends all those characters to our world.""The Evil Queen is just so much fun to play. I think it's just really interesting how the writers have created these parallel counterparts," she continues. "You should watch it, 'cause if you don't, I'm gonna cast a spell on you.""Once Upon a Time" premieres Sunday,... //blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/once-upon-a-times-lana-parrilla-watch-it-or-im-gonna-cast-a-spell-on-you.html
